The next full moon for 2023 is coming up. What to know about October's ‘Hunter's Moon'
Last 3 Full Moons Of 2023 Include "Hunter's Moon" In October
The upcoming complete moon for the year 2023 will emerge during the weekend of Halloween.
Chicago's Adler Planetarium has announced that the "Hunter's Moon," which will be the next full moon for 2023, is scheduled to appear on Oct. 28.
As per the Old Farmer's Almanac, the "Hunter's Moon" is the next full moon that appears after the "Harvest Moon," which occurs during the autumnal equinox.
According to the website, the Harvest Moon is the full moon that shows up closest to the date of the autumnal equinox - which is expected to happen on September 23rd, 2023. It is hence possible that either September or October's full moon is referred to as the "Harvest Moon" instead of its usual name. On the other hand, the Hunter's Moon is the initial full moon that appears after the Harvest Moon, meaning it may show up either in October or November.
As per the Almanac, the moniker "Hunter's Moon" is thought to have emerged during the 1700s, when hunters used to arm themselves for the upcoming chilly months by chasing their prey. Additionally, this time was when animals commenced stuffing themselves up in preparation for the nippy weather, as per the Almanac.
According to the website, people can anticipate viewing the Hunter's Moon on October 27th. The best time to see it in full view will be at 3:54 p.m. CT on October 28th.
Remaining Full Moons In 2023: How Many?
The Hunter's Moon is a term used to describe the full moon that occurs in October. It is also sometimes called the Blood Moon or the Sanguine Moon. This moon phase is often associated with the start of the hunting season and the need to gather food for the winter. It is a time when animals begin to migrate and prepare for the colder months ahead. The Hunter's Moon is a beautiful sight to behold, with its orange glow and large size. Many people enjoy moon-gazing during this time and some even hold special events, such as full moon parties or bonfires. While the Hunter's Moon may have cultural and historical significance, it is also important to remember the scientific aspects behind it. Full moons occur when the moon is directly opposite the sun in the sky, with Earth in between. This results in the moon appearing fully illuminated to us on Earth. So, whether you're a hunter, a nature lover, or simply enjoy the beauty of the night sky, take some time this October to appreciate the Hunter's Moon.
