Friday the 13th

Why is Friday the 13th Considered Unlucky?

Friday the 13th is often associated with bad luck, superstition and fear. The origins surrounding this date being considered unlucky are shrouded in mystery, but there are a few theories. One theory suggests that the superstition goes back to the Last Supper, with Jesus and his 12 disciples gathered around a table. Judas, who betrayed Jesus, was the 13th guest. Another theory suggests that the day was deemed unlucky due to King Philip IV of France ordering the arrest and execution of the Knights Templar on Friday the 13th of October in 1307, resulting in the belief that the day was cursed.

How Do People React to Friday the 13th?

Despite there being no empirical evidence to suggest that Friday the 13th is actually unlucky, many people still take precautions on this day. Some avoid traveling, making big commitments, or starting new projects, while others may avoid black cats or walking under ladders. Some even suffer from triskaidekaphobia – a fear of the number 13, which can cause discomfort and anxiety when encountered. However, for others, Friday the 13th is just like any other day and they pay no attention to the superstitions surrounding it.
