Frank Lampard hopes that Luke Shaw will be in the starting lineup for England in the semi-final of Euro 2024. This comes after the Three Lions secured a victory over Switzerland in a penalty shootout, keeping their hopes of winning the European championship alive.

Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Ivan Toney, and Trent Alexander-Arnold all scored during a nerve-wracking penalty shootout in Dusseldorf, following a 1-1 draw in the quarter-final match.

Even though they tried, England failed to live up to expectations for most of the game – just like they have done in previous Euro matches. They were losing with only 15 minutes left after Breel Embolo scored a late goal.

England defeated Switzerland to make it to the semi-finals of Euro 2024 in an exciting match.

However, Bukayo Saka scored a powerful goal for England in the 80th minute to tie up the game before Southgate's team demonstrated skill and calmness during the penalty shootout.

The focus quickly shifted to Wednesday's semi-final match, where England will be facing either the Netherlands or Turkey. Lampard is hoping that Shaw will be in the starting lineup after he made his Euros debut against Switzerland.

The Manchester United player, who has been healing from a hamstring injury for a long time, brought more stability and authority to England's left side when he came on in the 78th minute.

"Lampard said that if Shaw is feeling well, he will be in the starting lineup," Lampard mentioned during the BBC's broadcast of the quarter-final win.

"He provides a sense of equilibrium for England. He seemed quite impressive when he entered the game. If he is healthy, I would definitely include him in the starting lineup."

Former English defender Rio Ferdinand also commented: 'Luke Shaw helped bring balance back to our team.'

When questioned about starting the semi-final, Ferdinand replied, "Possibly. It's a tough decision. Look him directly in the eye and inquire. If he gives you the correct response, he will be in the game."

Despite not being able to defeat Switzerland in regular time, Bellingham thinks that England showed their top performance of the tournament to make it to the semi-finals.

Overall, Bellingham expressed that it was likely the team's strongest showing of the tournament. He shared his pride in the boys' performance.

Sometimes, what truly matters, like a person's character and mindset, isn't always easily quantifiable. We demonstrated this once again during the shootout. It was truly remarkable to see substitute players step up and take a penalty kick under such intense pressure.

In the shootout, Bellingham commented: 'I follow the same routine as the rest of the team and have my own method. I trust in the preparation I put in.'

At times, you may take a chance and not succeed. I believe there is a sense of ease when you stick to a method that you are familiar with.
