"Fruit And Vegetables See Discounts Of 7% And 5%"

Agence Bio released 2002 French organic market figures on June 1st. Household consumption, which makes up 92% of the sector, decreased by 4.6%. The organic market decreased by 600 million euros [642 million USD] to 12,076 billion euros [12,916 billion USD] in 2022. Sales in organic stores are down by 8.6%, mostly due to closures and reduced customers. Supermarket sales are down by 4.6%, and craft production sales by 2.9%.

Sales of organic produce from French farms are up by 3.9%. This is good news for the local farmers. People in France want to buy both local and organic food. The Agence Bio agency helps farms sell their organic food and it now accounts for 13% of the market. You can buy this type of food at 26,000 farms in France.

Sales in restaurants have gone up by 17%. Organic products are being consumed outside of home through collective or commercial catering. The total market is worth 715 million euros (or 765 million USD). 7% of organic purchases are from collective catering while 1% are from commercial catering. Potential opportunities to eat organic food come from 128,000 sales outlets, 80,000 canteens, and 170,000 restaurants. This is good news for farmers who have transitioned to agroecology.

Sales of fruit dropped by 7%, while vegetable sales fell by 5%.
