Fast X

The tenth instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise drops this year and we have the first, star-studded trailer for Fast X

Fast X might just be the biggest film in the long-running franchise and that’s a lot considering these films have put cars everywhere cars shouldn’t go. You really have to admire the franchise’s long shelf-life; it has survived the death of its main co-star and defied logic, but the Fast franchise shows no slowing down.

The 9th sequel brings back John Cena and Jason Statham and joining Vin Diesel’s “family” are Brie Larson as Tess and Jason Momoa as the film’s antagonist, Dante. The tagline at the end of the trailer promises the beginning of “the end of the road”.

Check out the trailer below.

Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Helen Mirren and Scott Eastwood will reprise their roles from previous Fast films. Daniela Melchior and Alan Ritchson are also joining the cast.

Transporter director Louis Leterrier is on directing duties after Justin Lin, who has directed three films in the franchise, exited the project due to creative differences.

The official, and rather long, synopsis goes like this: “Over many missions and against impossible odds, Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family have outsmarted, out-nerved and outdriven every foe in their path. Now, they confront the most lethal opponent they’ve ever faced: A terrifying threat emerging from the shadows of the past who’s fueled by blood revenge, and who is determined to shatter this family and destroy everything—and everyone—that Dom loves, forever.

In 2011’s Fast Five, Dom and his crew took out nefarious Brazilian drug kingpin Hernan Reyes and decapitated his empire on a bridge in Rio De Janeiro. What they didn’t know was that Reyes’ son, Dante (Aquaman’s Jason Momoa), witnessed it all and has spent the last 12 years masterminding a plan to make Dom pay the ultimate price.

Dante’s plot will scatter Dom’s family from Los Angeles to the catacombs of Rome, from Brazil to London and from Portugal to Antarctica. New allies will be forged and old enemies will resurface. But everything changes when Dom discovers that his own 8-year-old son (Leo Abelo Perry, Black-ish) is the ultimate target of Dante’s vengeance.”

Fast X is in cinemas 19 May.
