Merseyside Derby Postponed Due To Storm Darragh
"It was just a joke...we're presumed innocent until proven otherwise," Guardiola said in response to Mourinho's remarks.
The Merseyside derby featuring Everton and Liverpool at Goodison Park has been called off because of worries regarding Storm Darragh.
Storm Darragh has brought strong winds to large areas of the United Kingdom, prompting the Met Office to issue a red warning for many regions in Wales and the western part of England.
On Saturday morning, several trains in the area were called off because of the storm. On Friday, both clubs released a message urging fans to give themselves additional time to reach Goodison Park.
On Saturday morning, Everton announced that the game had been called off.
"The match between Everton and Liverpool in the Premier League that was set to take place at 12:30 PM today (Saturday, December 7) has been delayed," the announcement stated.
After a meeting of the Safety Advisory Group held today at Goodison Park, attended by officials from both clubs, along with representatives from Merseyside Police and Liverpool City Council, it was determined that the match scheduled for today should be postponed. This decision was made due to concerns for safety in the surrounding area resulting from strong wind gusts and an amber severe wind warning that is in effect until 6 a.m. on Sunday.
"We sincerely apologize for any trouble this may have caused and are grateful for the support and understanding from our fans. We recognize that this situation may be very disappointing, but the safety of our fans, staff, and players is our top priority."
Details about the rescheduled date for the event will be shared soon.
"All tickets bought for the original match will still be accepted for the rescheduled game."
Liverpool has had a great beginning under Arne Slot's management and could have pulled ahead by 10 points in the standings with a win against their local rivals.
However, their advantage at the top of the Premier League could shrink to just four points if either Chelsea or Arsenal wins against Tottenham Hotspur or Fulham on Sunday.
The two competitors will meet again later in the season, although the new date for this match has not been revealed yet.
