Everton 0-0 Brentford: Final | Blues can’t score or beat ten-man Bees

Everton vs Brentford

FINAL REFLECTIONS: The Blues are struggling to make a real impact in the opposing half. They’ve gone three matches without finding the net and have only scored three times in their last six outings. This was a missed chance to secure three points, especially with more challenging matches looming ahead.

90+5’ - The crowd starts to jeer as the match concludes.

In the 90+2 minute, Young sent in a cross that went over both DCL and Beto, landing with Myko, whose attempt was stopped and resulted in a corner kick. Young took the corner, but it was cleared. The ball came back into the penalty area where Tarky found Beto, but his shot was also blocked! That moment could have changed the outcome of the match.

In the 90th minute, Beto is awarded a free kick while attempting to maintain possession by the left sideline. Only four minutes of stoppage time will be added, which frustrates the fans at Goodison Park. Branthwaite manages to make contact with the ball during the free kick, but his header goes off target, missing the far post.

88’ - Everton is doing a lot of lateral passing while Brentford sets up defensively. Eventually, Brentford manages to ease the pressure after an inaccurate pass from Everton.

83’ - Tarky notices Beto making a run past the defenders, delivers a pass to him, and the striker turns quickly to take a shot, but it goes off target. Myko connects with McNeil through a long cross, and the Everton midfielder takes it on his left foot to shoot, but the ball ends up wobbling towards the goalkeeper.

81’ - Janelt takes down Ndiaye roughly thirty yards from the goal, in a fairly central spot. Young steps up to take the free kick, aiming to deliver it near the penalty spot, but no Everton players were close enough to capitalise. A missed opportunity.

In the 79th minute, McNeil has moved to the right side and passes to Young, who prepares to cross the ball. Beto arrives but is poorly positioned, leading to a wayward header. Frustrating! Brentford earns a free kick just outside Everton’s defensive third, and they’re not rushing to take it. After taking his time, Pickford catches the inswinging kick, and the Blues are on the move once more.

78’ - The formation seems to have transformed into a more assertive 4-4-2, with McNeil and Ndiaye positioned on the flanks and applying pressure. It’s the first time we’ve really observed Beto and DCL playing together as a forward duo. Could this be the moment when everything clicks into place?

77’ - McNeil sends a cross into the penalty area, and Beto tries to head it towards the goal, but it lacks both power and accuracy, making it easy for Flekken to catch. Meanwhile, Ndiaye makes a series of impressive moves down the right side, yet his cutback fails to connect with any of his teammates in blue.

In the 75th minute, Myko allows the ball to go past him on the left side. McNeil sends in a deep cross, which Ndiaye heads back across the goal, but there’s no one there to capitalize on it. With two forwards on the field, how is that possible?

In the 71st minute, Lindstrom sent in another decent cross that reached McNeil. He set up Mykolenko for a delivery, but it was way off target. Frustrating! The Bees are making some substitutions, bringing on Thiago and Schade while Wissa and Damsgaard exit the field. The Blues are also making attacking changes, replacing Doucoure and Lindstrom with Mangala and Beto.

68’ - Lewis-Potter has been really pushing forward from the left-back spot, so it’s surprising that the Blues haven’t taken advantage of that side more. Young finally makes a move and earns a corner after his cross is blocked. McNeil takes the corner with an inswinger, but Flekken handles it comfortably.

66’ - McNeil tries again from around twenty yards away, but his left-footed shot goes well off target. The Blues had a chance to counter quickly, but Lindstrom’s pass wasn’t good and results in a turnover.

63’ - The Bees launched a counterattack with Lewis-Potter finding himself all alone on the left side. Pickford managed to block his shot, but the ball bounced to Jensen, who fired it over the crossbar. Everton dodges a bullet.

62’ - A lovely build-up play unfolded with a series of around twelve passes. It concluded with Ndiaye softly bringing the ball into the penalty area, but Myko hurriedly took a right-foot shot off his ankle, sending it over the goal.

57’ - Lindstrom takes a shot that just sails over the bar. The Blues win a corner on the right side, but Flekken manages to punch it away, resulting in another corner. The corner is taken quickly, and Myko attempts a cross, but it's blocked. Now Brentford has possession and will look to keep the ball and run down the clock.

55’ - Ah, that's the Dominic Calvert-Lewin we recognize, caught offside once more. The Blues are enjoying a lot of possession and are passing the ball around effectively. Ndiaye's movement in the #10 role is definitely making a difference. Young sends a deep ball into the area, and Ndiaye makes a sliding attempt... oh no, the ball gets tangled up in his legs.

52’ - Ndiaye finds some room on the left side but can't get a shot away as Flekken rushes out to close him down. Collins accidentally steps on his own goalkeeper, and the Bees supporters at Goodison are calling for a response against Ndiaye?!

In the 50th minute, Gana takes a shot that finds the mark, but Flekken manages to tip it out for a corner kick! The corner is taken and only partially cleared away, but then Lindstrom is caught offside.

47’ - It seems that Ndiaye has taken on the #10 position, while McNeil is positioned on the left side. What was it that Dyche mentioned in his press conference about Ndiaye playing centrally?

46' - The second half has begun!

Halftime Reflections - The Blues came out firing and should have scored first, but the opposing team has also created some opportunities. The big question now is how the home team will adapt with one extra player on the field, and will they be able to capitalize on this advantage?

45+3’ - The Blues are keeping the Bees at bay when Gueye takes another long-range shot, but it goes off-target. The halftime whistle blows.

In the 45th minute, Everton is applying pressure. Ndiaye maneuvers skillfully on the right side, and then the ball reaches Myko, who attempts a shot that gets blocked. There will be three additional minutes added to the half.

39’ - A cross comes into the Everton penalty area, and Pinnock heads it back across the goal. Two Brentford players are completely unmarked and somehow miss the opportunity to score. Norgaard collided with Pickford, who is now on the ground, with his studs landing on the goalkeeper’s ankle. Referee Chris Kavanagh is looking into a potential red card for this incident and ends up sending off the Brentford player. Honestly, that seems a bit harsh; he was just trying to play the ball. So, Brentford is now down to ten players. We can expect some added time here.

37’ - What’s happening with the defense? A long pass is sent to Wissa, who is all alone, splitting the two center backs. Pickford reacts quickly and stops the one-on-one shot! The corner is played short and kicked into the area, but the Blues struggle to clear it, leading to another corner for the opponents. Fortunately, Everton manages to clear the ball this time.

35’ - Tarkowski stops a powerful attempt from Damsgaard with a solid block. Everton wins a corner on the left side, and Tarkowski clears the danger effectively. The Blues try to launch a counterattack, but the pass lacks enough strength to reach Doucoure, forcing him to retreat in order to collect the ball.

In the 33rd minute, Ndiaye deserves more recognition for his defensive efforts. He quickly pursued Mbeumo and managed to win back possession. This led to DCL assisting McNeil, who took a shot from outside the penalty area that was narrowly deflected off target. McNeil's corner kick, however, was aimed a bit too close to the goalkeeper.

30’ - The crowd erupts in applause as Everton skillfully navigates the intense pressure from the Bees. Tarkowski passes to Gana, who makes a strong run down the center, but his shot is denied.

28’ - Following a foul on Gana, the team gains possession on the right side, leading to a corner kick. McNeil's delivery is too far, and Tarkowski is unable to control it.

In the 27th minute, McNeil finds DCL open on the right side. He gets pushed away from the center and attempts a low shot, but Flekken stops it with his foot! The corner kick goes deep, and Tarkowski heads it back into the penalty area. However, Flekken struggles to handle it, and the referee rules that he was obstructed.

In the 25th minute, Everton seems comfortable playing defensively and attempting to catch the opposing team off guard with quick counterattacks.

20’ - If only McNeil had better control with his right foot. He made a fantastic run down the center for Everton, getting past Damsgaard. However, under pressure from Collins, he could only send his shot weakly off target.

16' - There’s another long throw-in, but Branthwaite fails to get a good touch on it, resulting in a corner kick. The long throws have been causing issues for the defense so far. The corner is taken quickly, then crossed in, but the Blues manage to fend off the Bees' attack.

At the 15-minute mark, Pinnock commits a foul on DCL, resulting in a free kick on the right side. Lindstrom takes the kick, sending a low ball into the penalty area, but the Bees manage to clear it away.

At the 13-minute mark, Tarky misjudges a clearance, sending the ball out for a throw-in. The opposing team takes a long throw, and the Blues struggle to regain control. Van den Berg then takes a shot on the volley, but it sails past the far post.

In the 11th minute, Ndiaye skillfully maneuvered into the penalty area, but his attempt to pass back to a teammate was intercepted by Brentford. Shortly after, DCL made a sprint forward and earned a corner on the left side, although he was caught offside.

At the 10-minute mark, Brentford launched an offensive with Wissa making a run down the left side for Everton. He appeared to be in an offside position, and his cross into the penalty area went past Janelt, allowing Pickford to safely collect the ball.

8' - The team makes a couple of swift counter-attacks, but once again, the Blues fail to find the target with their shot.

At the 6-minute mark, a corner kick is taken into the penalty area, leading to another attempt at a shot from Gueye, but it misses the target.

At the 4-minute mark, Ndiaye maneuvered past three defenders and let a shot fly, but it went off target. It appears to have resulted in a corner. The corner is taken quickly on the left, and although the ball eventually makes its way into the penalty area, it gets cleared. Gana then takes a long-range shot towards the goal, which is deflected by DCL, who has his back to the net. Fortunately for the defense, Flekken makes an outstanding save, pushing the ball out for another corner.

3’ - Ndiaye is full of energy as he prepares a cross for Myko, but he sends it too far.

2' - The Blues have had some initial control of the ball.

1’ - The match has kicked off at Goodison Park!

Everton - Dyche has decided to field both Branthwaite and McNeil in the starting lineup, while Lindstrom retains his position as well.

Brentford - Frank has all three of his injured players back in action: Mbeumo, Wissa, and Pinnock.

Now that the final international break of the year has come to an end, Everton is set to return to the field, hosting Brentford at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Toffees seem to have fixed their defensive issues from earlier in the season, but on the offensive side, they are struggling to find the back of the net. In their last five Premier League matches, Everton has only managed to score two goals, and it's clear that their creativity on offense is lacking.

Dwight McNeil and Jarrad Branthwaite seem to have recovered from their injuries and are expected to have a significant impact on the outcome of the match tonight. This is particularly true if Everton manages to secure a victory, as Sean Dyche has had a strong track record against Thomas Frank, winning all three encounters since he took charge of the team.

The Blues have triumphed over the Bees in their last three encounters. This includes two victories last season, where they first won 3-1 in an away match and later secured a narrow 1-0 win at home. Idrissa Gueye scored a stunning goal in that match in late April, which played a crucial role in helping the team avoid relegation.
