Sunak seeks to appease Tory right by giving Esther McVey ministerial role

In an effort to satisfy the more conservative members of his political party, Rishi Sunak has selected Esther McVey as a minister in charge of the Cabinet Office.

According to reports, the GB News host, who was among the first to be removed from the 2019 Conservative leadership contest, has been designated to spearhead the government's campaign against woke culture by serving as a "common sense czar."

The prime minister recently completed a reshuffle of his cabinet, and one of the last changes made was the appointment of McVey as a minister without portfolio. This came after Suella Braverman was removed from the cabinet.

No 10 was unhappy with Braverman's spontaneous remarks for a while, and on Monday, she was dismissed due to a piece she wrote for The Times last Thursday. In the article, she stated that there is a perception that senior police officers show bias towards protesters, and they are harsher on pro-Palestinian "mobs" than rightwing extremists.

Last week, McVey stated that Braverman was feeling insecure and was trying to gather more backing from the conservative wing of the party to prevent Sunak from dismissing her.

During an interview with GB News, she expressed her belief that the issues surrounding immigration have yet to be resolved. Therefore, in her opinion, the best course of action for the party is to strengthen their support among the right-wing base. This would ensure that Rishi, who isn't naturally aligned with that group, would have a more difficult time reaching out to them.

Her message is clear - she won't be going anywhere. A reshuffling is in the works but she's asserting her presence and saying "I'm going to be visible". She's committed to staying put.

Braverman is no longer part of the party, and now they have David Cameron, Laura Trott, and Victoria Atkins. This reshuffle is seen by some of the party's conservatives as an effort to shift towards the centre of the political spectrum.

Andrea Jenkyns expressed that she has had enough and believes that it is time for Rishi Sunak to depart from his position. She then proceeded to write and submit a letter showcasing her confidence in this decision to the 1922 Committee.

She expressed her disapproval about Boris Johnson being forced to leave, stating that it was an unforgivable act. Moreover, she criticized the removal of Braverman. Braverman was the only person brave enough in the cabinet to speak the reality of the dire situation of our streets. Additionally, she shed light on the two-tier policing system that leaves the Jewish community in fear for their safety.
