West Indies vs England live: Score and updates from the fourth T20 in Trinidad
Buttler, who was not wearing his gloves as he had a day off, managed to catch the ball easily at the covers when Forde struck Topley's slower ball directly to him. With that, the team's score fell to 169 for 9 wickets down.
WI 164/8: Russell Scores 24, Forde Takes 3 Wickets
Curran takes the place of Rehan and initiates with a powerful delivery that swings into Russell. Russell manages to hit the ball for a single. In the previous over, Brook did an excellent job by stopping the ball at long off. However, when Hosein strikes a cover drive, Brook dives to save the ball, but it hits the fence. Curran quickly grabs the opportunity and dismisses the batsman in the next delivery. West Indies has been scoring at a remarkable pace, but they are left with a limited number of batsmen. Even though Ian Bishop and Samuel Badree have faith in Russell's batting capabilities, there is still a long way to go for the West Indies to win the game.
Rashid didn't hit the stumps in an attempt to run out the batsman by throwing the ball from the area near the boundary behind the wicketkeeper. However, Russell was not able to take advantage of the missed opportunity and Moeen was able to prevent the ball from going over the boundary by quickly running towards it and using his hand to keep it in play. As a result, the team was able to save four runs.
Curran sends a slow, high bouncing bumper towards off that Hosein attempts to pull towards midwicket, but he ends up getting caught out. This leads to a fall of wicket (FOW) score of 160/8.
WI 155/7: Russell And Hosein's Contributions
Buttler has received criticism for his performance as a keeper, but Salt hasn't done much better today. He let a significant leg-break pass him for two wide balls and a googly for four wide balls. Rashid's over resulted in a total of 13 runs, but eight of those came from extras.
Rashid only has one remaining.
"Russell And Hosein Contribute To WI Score Of 142/7"
Russell hits Rehan's third ball for six over the long off. He then hits a cut square for four in a ruthless manner. Buttler considers trying to catch it at point, but he realizes it's not worth getting injured.
The Sorcerer's Apprentice made a great response in the situation by choosing to score only three singles from the final four balls.
WI 129/7: Russell And Hosein On The Scorecard
Jacks made a brave move in trying to catch a difficult ball on the last delivery of the over, which had only resulted in three runs so far. Unfortunately, the ball took a curved path towards deep midwicket and went over the boundary line. While trying to stop it, Jacks collided with the Toblerones and missed the flick, leading to the ball sailing over the rope.
The West Indies cricket team requires 139 runs from 60 balls with only three wickets remaining.
"West Indies Score 120/7 With Russell And Hosein Contributing"
Powell is positioned far back on the crease and hits the ball hard, sending it soaring for a six over midwicket. Rutherfird then swings and hits the ball that spins the opposite way, sending it flying into the stands for another big hit. However, Rehan steps in and takes two wickets in consecutive deliveries, bringing England close to winning. This is an impressive turnaround as Rutherford had previously been dropped by Curran at deep midwicket, which may have caused panic after he hit two consecutive sixes.
Rehan managed to get a wicket with his delivery as Jacks was caught by Holder for a score of zero. Cloths tried to hit the ball towards midwicket but couldn't succeed, and Rehan managed to take two wickets in consecutive deliveries. Rehan will have the opportunity to score a hat-trick in the next over. The current score is 120/7.
Rutherford was declared out because the ball hit his leg and would have gone on to hit the stumps if he didn't get in the way. He had attempted to do a reverse sweep but failed. The bowler, Rehan, did a good job of keeping the ball close to the stumps. This wicket brought the team's score to 120/6.
Salt commented that Rutherford was given out lbw by Rehan. He believed that Rutherford should have been given out and the review confirmed it. Rutherford began to walk off the pitch and Salt was unsure if he had even asked for a review.
WI Scores 106/5 With Rutherford On 29 And Russell At 0
Powell began by gently tapping a leg break and managed to score a single. Rutherford, on the other hand, was unable to hit the ball past the fielders. However, he was able to get two runs, although they were byes as both he and the wicketkeeper were unable to play a googly. After that, Rutherford hit a single over the mid-on area. However, the momentum was lost as Rashid caught Powell with an exceptional delivery, which led to a more cautious approach from Russell.
In a previous comment of mine, I mentioned that Rashid is an exceptional cricketer. He proved this to be true once again, with a fantastic leg-break that came in and deceived the West Indies' captain. The ball pitched and zipped past the edge, eventually hitting the off stump. This caused the West Indies' score to drop to 106/5.
WI At 102/4 With Rutherford On 28 And Powell On 3 After 7 Overs
Powell hits a short shot and accidentally sends it over the fielder at cover. The fielders at point and extra cover, along with the sweeper in the outfield, attempt to catch the ball, but unfortunately, it drops without being caught. As a result, Powell was able to run a single.
Rutherford hit a pull shot that scored four runs, followed it up with a swipe down to the fine leg for another boundary, and completed a hat-trick of boundaries by performing a reverse sweep where he jumped across and top-edged the ball just past the keeper while Salt made the same movement.
Adil Rashid will attempt to keep a cap on this situation.
WI Struggles: Rutherford And Powell Score Low
The match began with Hope hitting an impressive shot to the outer boundary for four, but unfortunately, he was caught out soon after while trying to aggressively chase the score.
Powell opens the innings with four leg byes followed by a successful push through point to score a single. Then, Rutherford, who is left-handed, identifies the slower ball and skillfully hits it through cover for four runs. However, he couldn't react quickly enough to the next ball due to its speed and got beaten.
The Powerplay has come to a close. It's now time for Rehan Ahmed to step up.
Salt got caught out by Woakes on 16 when he hit his pulled shot too high, sending the ball straight up towards the sky. The keeper had to quickly move backwards to make the catch, resulting in a fall of wicket score of 78/4.
WI At 74/3 With Hope And Rutherford Scoring 12 And 11 Respectively
Before dismissing Pooran, England received a caution about the time violation, which means they failed to begin the following over within one minute of completing the previous one.
Rutherford begins with a strong shot through the covers for four, using only one hand. He then hits a short ball for a single. Hope hits the ball hard through point for four and then takes a single off Curran. Unfortunately for Curran, the next ball he pitches is too high and Rutherford takes advantage of this by hitting it over mid-off for a six.
Curran took the wicket of Pooran by bowling a great ball that was caught by Brook. Brook sprinted from the long on rope, diving on the grass and extending his arm to catch the ball at full stretch. This impressive catch forced Pooran to go out and gave Curran his first wicket. The team's score at this point was 58/3.
WI 58/2 With Pooran On 39, Hope 7
Hope hit the ball back to Topley, but it didn't earn any runs. However, he successfully hit the next ball and managed to score six runs by hitting it over long on. After that, he gave Pooran a chance to hit the ball by hitting a slower ball towards mid-on.
Pooran hit the ball with a quick motion from his hips, and Brook saved a probable four by sliding and stopping it at the deep backward square region. Topley finished the over with a single and a dot ball, but it could have been two dot balls if not for a mistake from Rehan Ahmed due to an awkward bounce.
WI 48/2 With Pooran At 36, Hope At 0
At the beginning of the over, Woakes manages to throw three balls that do not allow Pooran to hit them. The first ball goes through quickly and bounces unusually high because it comes from over the wicket. Woakes then throws two slower balls that frustrate Pooran, causing him to swing wildly. However, Pooran manages to hit a four over the slips and then two sixes, both going over the long on area. The first six is like hitting a golf ball with a three wood off a tee, while the second is more like clubbing a pulled shot slightly wider.
West Indies At 32/2 With Pooran Scoring 20 And Hope At 0
Mayers hits Topley's well-pitched delivery and sends it past the cover point for a couple runs. After a missed attempt to hit the ball, he moves down the pitch and quickly pulls a short delivery just above his waist and beyond the fielder at short third man for four runs.
The chaos persists as Mayers makes the 22nd six of the game, hitting it over the long off, but unfortunately gets out during the next ball. This game is completely wild.
Mayers was caught by Woakes off Topley's bowling for 12. Mayers was determined to hit the ball hard and far, as it seemed like his only option at that point. However, his shot ended up going extremely high off the toe of his bat, resulting in a ridiculous looking slice. The ball eventually descended from its dizzying height and was caught by Woakes at mid-on, albeit after it popped out of his hands initially and had snow on it. This wicket meant that the West Indies were now 32/2.
"West Indies Reach 20/1 With Pooran On 20"
Moeen began the match by taking a wicket, aided by some drift. Pooran took some time to get into the game but managed to hit two impressive reverse sweeps for four. When Moeen changed his angle and came around the wicket, Pooran used his footwork to hit a massive six over the cow corner. He then took advantage of a poor delivery from Moeen and smashed the ball over deep backward square for another six. Wow, what an intense game it was!
The batsman, King, was dismissed by Moeen for a total score of zero. He attempted a drive that resulted in the ball hitting the outside of his bat and flying up towards the short third. Topley, the fielder, managed to reach the ball due to his height, resulting in King being out for a golden duck. The team's score was now 0/1 after this dismissal.
Everything went smoothly as planned. Salt and Buttler did an excellent job with their batting at the beginning of the game while Jacks and Livingstone impressed with their short appearances. It's worth taking a look at their strike rates.
Salt scored 208.77 points, Buttler scored 189.65 points, Jacks scored 266.66 points, Livingstone scored 257.14 points and Brook scored 150 points.
The West Indies' bowlers were thoroughly beaten by the opposing team, with only Mayers having an economy rate of under 12 after bowling just one over.
The only time a Test-playing nation scored more runs in a T20i than Afghanistan's 278 against Ireland in 2019 was not recorded.
According to Liam Livingstone, England's performance is only slightly better than average. In order to prevent West Indies from reaching a score of 250 or even 268, all of the English bowlers would need to perform exceptionally well.
"Livingstone And Brook Lead ENG To 267/3"
Livingstone reached his 50 runs by hitting the ball very hard off Holder and it went for four runs. Later, he took a single and got the strike back. Then, he hit the ball that was delivered very low over midwicket and earned four more runs for his team.
In T20i history, England leaves the field with the second-highest score achieved by a full member nation. This happened when Livingstone gave it his all and managed to hit the last ball with such force that it went over the second slip and earned four points more.
Livingstone made a 50 runs by hitting 20 balls.
England Dominates With 250/3 For Over 19
Russell opens with five wide deliveries from the round side and targets the right-handed Livingstone. The latter hits a full ball for two runs on the very next delivery. Soon after, Salt comes on to strike and receives a single. However, he loses his wicket on the next ball.
Brook attempts to hit a yorker hard, but unfortunately could only manage to score a single run through the leading edge. On the other hand, Livingstone skillfully hits a yorker towards the ground and earns a single run. Brook also follows suit and scores two runs. Although they manage to score twelve runs in that over, it can be considered a small victory for them.
The highest score that England has ever achieved in a T20 match was 241 runs against New Zealand back in 2019.
I wonder where is Roy Castle carrying his trumpet to play music as a tribute to the high achievers in England.
Russell's yorker aimed at the leg-stump proved too much for Salt, ending his impressive innings of 119 after he attempted to sweep the ball between his legs. The score at the fall of his wicket was 246/3.
England Dominates With Strong Batting, Scoring 238/2 For Over 18
Attempting to conceal the ball, he instead hits it too far to the side where the opposing team has stationed themselves to defend against him.
In the cricket match, Livingstone managed to hit three balls that were considered valid for six runs. The first was a yorker that he hit over long off. The second was an offcutter which he pulled to score six runs. Finally, for the third ball, Livingstone slice-drove the ball over point as he was aiming for a fifth-stump yorker.
Forde feels relieved as he takes a single. He shows a big smile when he successfully gets a dot ball past Salt's bat and then delivers a perfect yorker that Salt struggles to hit. This results in two consecutive dot balls.
Russell and Holder are about to start bowling.
Eng: 218/2 As Salt And Livingstone Score
Motie was given the opportunity to bowl late in the game, and Salt didn't let his reputation for being greedy affect him. He smashed a four and hit a long hop for a six. The over was concluded with four singles.
Forde, in his first appearance, has allowed 17 runs per over up to this point, but he is now making a return.
ENG 204/2: Salt Scores 107, Livingstone 16
Livingstone hits Holder for a boundary by slicing the ball behind point when Holder provides him with some room. Holder attempts to deliver the ball outside the off-stump, but makes a mistake by sending it too far away, which results in an extra delivery. Possibly frustrated by the umpire's decision to call it a wide, Holder decides to bowl a bouncer, which he quickly regrets when Livingstone plays a hook shot and the ball hits him on his collarbone before sailing over the boundary rope for a six.
Holder attempted to slow down the ball's speed and used a trick delivery, causing Livingstone to use his wrist movements to hit it towards long off, resulting in two runs. Salt noticed the slower ball and hit it flatly over the long on area, scoring six points, before securing the opportunity to make another run.
ENG 183/2: Salt Scores 100, Livingstone 3
Using different vocabulary: Salt places a collar on the Motie, causing it to slow down and then pulls it back for a distance of four. Salt then makes a smooth shot to the area far off for a single, allowing him to reach a score of 99. He completes his second hundred in three days with another well-placed shot to the long off section for another single. This was an amazing performance, achieved in just 48 balls and included eight sixes and six fours.
"ENG 175/2: Salt Scores 94, Livingstone 1"
Pooran expresses frustration towards Hosein for not being where he was supposed to be to catch a throw from Powell. If Hosein was in position to remove the bails, it would have been a close call for the runner. However, Pooran doesn't dwell on it for too long and takes matters into his own hands by bowling out Jacks for a quick 24 runs on the ninth ball.
Jacks was given out leg before wicket by Husein at a score of 24, which seemed quite obvious. He had moved towards the middle to play and was aiming for a sweep shot, but unfortunately, the ball went under his bat and struck directly on his left shin. As a result, Jacks had to leave the field and the team's score was now 173 for the loss of two wickets.
Jacks was given out lbw to Hosein after attempting a sweep shot. The ball hit his knee roll and there was a chance it was going down the leg side, but it didn't turn enough to avoid hitting the stumps.
Eng's Dominance Continues: Score 172/1 With Salt Scoring 92 And Jacks 24
Russell came to a sudden stop by delivering yorkers, but unfortunately made a mistake by throwing an off-cutter which landed too close to the batter, and Salt took advantage of the situation by hitting the ball over midwicket for a six.
Returning to the cricket match, Salt manages to score a single after hitting a yorker ball. Russell tries to confuse Jacks by changing the ball's seam, but Jacks isn't fooled and hits a powerful drive that goes over the extra-cover boundary line, resulting in six runs! The two players have formed a partnership and have scored 50 runs in just 19 balls.
"Eng Leads With 158/1 In Over 12 "
It's similar to what Mike Tyson once said - people have plans until they get hit. Powell looks at Husein while Jacks performs a reverse sweep and gets four after Motie misses the ball at third man. To avoid Motie getting scolded again by Husein and experiencing another failure, Jacks decides to hit the ball up in the air instead of doing a reverse sweep again and amazingly gets six points!
Salt is aggressively scoring by placing the ball strategically into the gaps to score two runs instead of one, increasing the team's overall score. This accomplishment has resulted in a total partnership score of 41 runs off of only 13 balls.
11 Overs Played: ENG 142 For 1 Wicket
The West Indies team chose Rutherford to make a move, but unfortunately for them, Salt completely outplayed him by hitting three consecutive sixes. The first one was hit over the square leg, the second one was hit over midwicket, and the last one was hit through the off-cutter, with a flat bat between midwicket and square leg.
Rutherford aims the ball outside the off stump and successfully stops the aggressive play. Salt hits it towards the long off fielder and takes a single. Rutherford attempts the same strategy while facing Jacks, but he fails as Jacks smashes a powerful shot through the cover point area, scoring four runs.
The over finishes with a glad relief as a dot ball is bowled in the twenty-third delivery.
Eng’s 1st Inn: Salt Scores 61; Jacks With 2
Buttler hits Holder's ball for two runs while the previous captain of Windies varies his speed. Buttler creates a spin in a slow ball to take a single, but unfortunately misses the ball just before the midpoint of the match. The players take a break for drinks at the end of this incident. Afterwards, Jacks waits for two minutes to face the next ball and ends up hitting it from the inside edge for two runs.
Buttler gets caught out by Holder for 55 runs. Despite using his quick reflexes to maneuver a hockey-style shot and avoid a yorker, he ends up hitting the ball towards long on and getting caught. This leads to a change in the score, with the team now at 117/1.
England Dominate With 112/0 Vs. India
The game goes on, and Salt kicks the ball towards the cow corner, scoring six points. Then, a quick hit to point earns the team one point, and Buttler manages to hit two sixes - one towards long off and the other towards long on. He expertly shifts his stance on both sides to accomplish this feat.
Salt scored 50 runs in only 23 balls, while Buttler scored 50 runs in 26 balls.
England Dominates With 91/0 Score: Salt 52, Buttler 38
Russell was teased by Salt as he hit a cover drive that earned him four points. When the opponent brought up a player to block the gap, Salt managed to hit the next ball and score another four points towards his half-century. To add to this, two singles were scored, bringing his total for the over to 10 points. Sadly, news came that Brandon King had to be taken to the hospital for an x-ray after Buttler's hit struck his kneecap.
"England Dominates With 80/0 Against Salt And Buttler Scoring 42 And 37 Runs Respectively"
Gudakesh Motie was tasked with bowling at the end of the Powerplay, and it was during this period that Buttler hit two exquisite shots. The first was a four off his pads, while the second was a reverse-sweep that was smashed for another run. However, Motie also demonstrated his bowling pedigree, as he bowled a delivery that dipped, gripped and ripped past the outside edge of the bat. England's current World Cup opening partnership doesn't include Bairstow in the top two, and it appears that Salt will be selected for the IPL. The Delhi Capitals have 10% of their budget remaining.
ENGLAND SCORES 68/0 WITH SALT ON 39 AND BUTTLER ON 28
Salt pulled off two impressive shots during the game. The first one was aimed over extra cover towards the boundary, but unfortunately, it didn't travel far enough and got stuck in the wet outfield. This only earned him two points. However, Salt didn't let that affect him. He stayed calm and focused and within a couple of balls, he moved his weight on to his front foot and hit a powerful cover drive off of Holder for four points.
"England Scores 58 Runs With No Wickets Lost, Salt And Buttler Leading"
Forde has returned and Salt hits a short ball near his hip for one point. The incoming delivery tempts a shot to the leg side which Buttler takes and manages to hit it fine enough to get four points. Buttler spots a slower ball, and flicks it for a single. Salt takes advantage of a ball that is of a certain length from the bowler and plays a pick-up shot to earn four points. He follows this by flicking a delivery that came from off-stump, which flies over the deep backward square and is awarded six points.
The player called Salt made a powerful hit when he finished the over by walking up to Forde and hitting the ball hard over long on for a huge score of six points. He was able to add 22 points to his team's score during that over. This kind of intense play is common in international cricket, and it can be difficult for new players like Forde to adjust to it.
"Eng Score 36/0 With Salt And Buttler Leading At 14 And 22"
Buttler made an error when he moved backwards and sideways to Hosein, but he managed to hit a drive that just missed the cover player. Although the shot had too much slice, it curved away from the fielder. However, Buttler quickly made up for his mistake by executing a reverse sweep, sending the ball soaring over the fence for six. It was a classic move from Jos, and he followed it up with an impressive performance that hurt Hosein for the first time in this series. He faked going towards leg and then pulled off a traditional sweep, hitting the ball squarely for four. Jos put on an excellent show.
ENG Dominate With Salt And Buttler Scoring 21 And 8 Respectively
As Mayers was getting ready to start his run, there were some enthusiastic Soca drumming sounds coming from the crowd. Then, Salt hit a powerful drive through cover, however, it was so strong that it went straight through King's hands and struck him right on the kneecap. Although he winced in agony, he managed to prevent the ball from going for a four.
The cricket match was in full swing as Salt made a single down the field. Buttler then hit a powerful drive that just grazed Mayers' hand as he tried to catch it. The catch would have been difficult even for an experienced player. Buttler tried again with an impressive off drive that went further but missed the mark and instead, landed over mid-off for a four. A mistake by Holder, who was playing in the square leg position, allowed the team to turn a single into a double.
ENG Leads With 14/0 In OVER 2
The bowler with the slow left-arm bowling style positioned a fielder in the slip and began his precise and economical attack. Buttler struggled to hit any runs as the spinner mixed up the height and distance of his deliveries, resulting in three consecutive missed shots before finally hitting a single towards the long off position. Powell moved the long off fielder closer and added a boundary rider to the deep backward square to prevent further runs from drifting in. Salt managed to hit a single towards midwicket, thus ending the over with just two singles in total. England needs to figure out how to launch an offensive against left-arm spin before the T20 World Cup.
"ENG Leads With 12/0 "
Newcomer Matthew Forde starts the first over as a right-handed medium-pacer and delivers a swinging ball towards Salt's pads. Salt manages to flick the ball towards the midwicket area, scoring a single run.
If you were judging his speed, you'd think he was only a mediocre military bowler, tossing the ball at a pace of 78mph. However, he's actually managing to create a curve with the ball and even Buttler is able to utilize this to hit a single towards the square leg area. Salt takes a step forward and over towards his left, then with a strong swing of his bat, he manages to hit the ball high in the air and for six points. Forde changes it up by throwing a ball with more force, but Salt is quick to react and steps forward, hitting it hard and earning himself four points. It's quite an impressive move.
As per his usual modus operandi, Hosein is entrusted with the responsibility of taking the first ball in the game.
We've Been Duped!
Instead of Johnson Charles, Kyle Mayers is the one currently playing.
He's wearing all black and resembles someone from New Zealand.
Brandon King, Johnson Charles, Shai Hope, Nic Pooran as the wicket-keeper, Rovman Powell as the captain, Sherfane Rutherford, Andre Russell, Jason Holder, Matthew Forde, Akeal Hosein, and Gudakesh Motie are the players representing West Indies.
The England cricket team has announced its lineup for the upcoming match. The captain will be Jos Buttler and the wicketkeeper will be Phil Salt. Additionally, the team will consist of Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Harry Brook, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Rehan Ahmed, Adil Rashid, and Reece Topley.
The game officials for the match are Gregory Brathwaite and Patrick Gustard, while Nigel Duguid will be in charge of the television broadcast.
Phil Salt To Keep Wicket For England
In my opinion, it's logical that Buttler won't be able to handle the roles of opening, keeping, and captaining for the entire duration of the World Cup. I believe that Bairstow would have taken up the keeping position in the previous tournament if he hadn't undergone the unfortunate mishap on the golf course.
Powell Wins Toss In Cricket Match
The decision has been made to let England bat first by another person. Jos Buttler has expressed that his preference would have also been to chase if he had won the toss.
West Indies has made some team changes for their upcoming match as Kyle Mayers and Alzarri Joseph have been replaced by Matthew Forde and Johnson Charles.
Chris Woakes and Rehan Ahmed are coming back into the team while Gus Atkinson and Tymal Mills will not be playing.

"IPL Casts Shadow Over Cricket World"
Good evening and welcome to our live coverage of the fourth T20 match. This is England's first time back in Trinidad since suffering a heavy defeat in Port of Spain back in 2009. Interestingly, this was just a year before they won the World T20 tournament in Barbados. Jos Buttler's team is still several months away from defending their title and they seem to be in good spirits following their recent victory in Grenada. The performances of Phil Salt and Harry Brook have lifted the team's morale and they are feeling much more confident than they have been in the past few months, including their tour of India in September.
The cricket match saw a few batsmen perform well, including Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone, but the team’s bowling struggled, with only Adil Rashid and Reece Topley standing out. Chris Woakes was signed by the Punjab Kings for £400,000 as an all-rounder, but his batting skills at No. 7 or 8 were not a major factor in his high price. The team is really hoping for his bowling abilities, and this upcoming match in Trinidad will be a great opportunity for him to showcase his skills in a similar environment to Mohali. Additionally, it will be interesting to see how Hampshire’s John Turner performs under pressure and provide another chance for Gus Atkinson to gain some experience.
The West Indies team has decided to add Johnson Charles and Oshane Thomas to their roster, while giving Shimron Hetmyer and Alzarri Joseph some time off. Hetmyer has not been doing well lately, whereas Joseph seems to be very content after securing a salary of £1,100,000 for just seven weeks' work in India. On the other hand, Hetmyer's situation is not too bad either, as he is set to make £800k when he plays for the Rajasthan Royals in 2024.
