West Indies vs England live: Score and latest updates from the first ODI

England vs West Indies

Hello, this is Tyers. I hope you are having a relaxing and pleasant Sunday. Thank you for tuning in to this live blog where we will be covering the one-day international match between West Indies and England in Antigua. The match is scheduled to commence at 1:30 pm and it is crucial for England to regain their momentum in the 50-over format after a lackluster performance in the World Cup. However, things could have been worse as West Indies didn't even make it to the tournament.

Tim Wigmore has shared his ideas along with some noteworthy statements made by England’s Jos Buttler.

During England's upcoming white-ball tour in the Caribbean, Jos Buttler plans to focus more on his batting and keeping skills. He recently acknowledged that he struggled to prioritize his own performance during the World Cup.

The England captain for white-ball cricket shared that it was a significant lesson for him to handle his game efficiently as it contributes to the team's performance. He realized that he needed to find innovative ways to approach the game so that he could step on the field with a calm mindset. Additionally, he acknowledged that he had successfully managed his time effectively before the World Cup.

Buttler is attempting to "discover the optimal timing and manage my own gameplay well," as he stated. He always aspired to have balance in his career. As a captain, he has additional responsibilities, meaning more tasks to be handled, but he has taken pleasure in it.

Phil Salt and Will Jacks are going to start the innings as opening batsmen. Buttler disagreed with the idea of opening the innings, as he has never done it before in ODIs, although he has achieved great success as an opener in T20 internationals, with an average of 49.2.

I've participated in almost 180 ODIs and have achieved tremendous accomplishments in the middle order. It's undoubtedly my strongest suit in this form of cricket, and I aspire to focus even more on it.

The leader of the English team stated that their weak efforts in the World Cup have simply strengthened his resolve for the remainder of his time with the national squad.

"I need to channel it as a driving force and desire to propel both myself and the team onward and extract valuable lessons from it. By transforming it into a constructive encounter, I can gain a positive foundation to build upon for the rest of my professional life."

We experienced a disappointing tournament recently. The location has been outstanding for a considerable amount of time and we are witnessing a surge of talented individuals coming forward. It is my duty to contribute to the development of this era of one-day cricket, and this responsibility drives and inspires me. As an individual, I strive to perform at my highest level and exceed my potential. When we encounter challenges, face opposition and criticism, it ignites a spark within us and fuels our motivation.

Buttler mentioned that it seems like a new beginning since only five of the members from England's World Cup team are part of the ODI squad, along with Brydon Carse, who joined as a substitute player.

"This marks the start of a fresh start. The crew possesses some exceptionally thrilling, rising talent individuals who are enthusiastic about receiving their chances to make an impact."

Buttler will be sharing "pretty much the same ideas" to the team, even though there have been personnel changes and a disappointing World Cup performance. He will stick with the bold strategy that worked for England from 2015 to 2022, while also stressing the importance of being flexible.

We need to emphasize our preferred method of playing. We will continue to strive for a bold and proactive approach to cricket, but we also have the flexibility to adjust our strategy as needed. It is important for each team member to understand their individual role within the team and how it contributes to our overall game plan.
