The fourth over of the cricket match sees the West Indies score stand at 58-2, with Nicholas Pooran at 39 and Shai Hope at 7. Hope is a very traditional player, and it takes him a couple of balls to get used to the game. Once he has warmed up, he hits yet another fantastic six by lofting the ball over long-on, impressing the audience.
West Indies have scored 50 runs in 20 balls. They got 10 of those runs in the over which Guy mentioned isn't considered an economic over these days. England had scored 36 runs without losing any wicket at this point.
During the 3rd over, the West Indies cricket team is standing at a score of 48-2, with Nicholas Pooran having made 36 and Shai Hope having not scored yet. Chris Woakes enters the game as a seamer to hopefully bring some stability to the team. The first few balls result in no runs but suddenly, Pooran hits two consecutive sixes along with a four. One of these sixes was an amazing shot straight down the field that looked more like a gentle shove than a hard hit. Salt is the player responsible for wicket keeping.
I received an email and I was surprised that no one had written anything before. Guy Hornsby wrote about the calm cricket night and how he was shocked by the performance of the England white-ball team during the third game. However, after watching Salt's exceptional skills, he was happy to take back his words. Salt has been performing exceptionally well in the current match with great support and the score seems unbelievable. Although the West Indies team is not going to give up easily. It's an exciting time to be a bowler since going at 10s can help win the match. In tonight's game, Rashid and Ahmed will play a crucial role.
After two overs, the West Indies have a score of 32 for 2 with Pooran having scored 20 and Hope having scored zero. Moeen has taken one wicket for 20 runs while Topley has taken one wicket for 12 runs. England, who themselves hit 19 sixes, have given up three so far. The game of cricket seems to be different than what we are used to.
Mayers Out For 12! Topley Gets The Wicket. West Indies At 32-2
It's absolutely absurd. Kyle Mayers is going all out, hitting a four with a shovel shot, a six with a slog and a high ball that seems to stay up in the air forever. Eventually, the ball descends and bounces away from Chris Woakes's grasp, but he manages to catch it on the rebound!
The first over of the game sees the West Indies score 20 runs and lose a wicket. However, they don't seem to be in any trouble as Nicholas Pooran takes charge. He comes in as the third batsman, plays the first delivery cautiously, and then goes on a rampage. He hits two reverse sweeps for four runs each, followed by two huge sixes. It's safe to say that the West Indies are comfortably ahead of the required run rate.
The game had just begun and King was up to bat. He attempted to slice Moeen's pitch over the group of fielders, but didn't realize that the player at the third base was the tallest one on the field, Reece Topley. With great precision, Topley extended his arm upwards - much like how one reaches for a can of baked beans on the top shelf of a grocery store. It was an impressive move.
West Indies Loses First Wicket For Zero, King Caught By Topley Off Ali's Bowling
Is there a possibility for West Indies to win? There is a chance that they could score 250 runs in a T20 match and still end up losing, as they have experienced before in March. However, it is uncertain whether they could make 267 runs and still suffer a loss.
England Near 267!
In the 20th over of the game, England had scored 267 runs with Livingstone and Brook at the crease. Jason Holder had the unfortunate task of bowling the very last over. Despite delivering three good balls, the over went for 17 runs. Liam Livingstone hit the first ball for four on the offside, followed by another four from a full toss, which helped him secure an impressive fifty. He ended the over by snicking four more runs.
Throughout the game, the team's run rate was consistently at 13. All team members performed well and even the lowest score, which was Will Jacks' 24, was an impressive and exciting showcase. Jos Buttler and Phil Salt had another impressive partnership and Salt even scored another hundred. Livingstone was also incredible, dominating the bowlers with ease. The team managed to surpass their previous best T20 score of 241 against New Zealand in Napier by a remarkable 26 runs.
When the time comes, we will forever recall the phrase that was uttered. "Good job," Livingstone states, "to Salty."
England Hits First T20 Score Of 250+
In the 19th over, the England team has scored 250 runs with three wickets down. Livingston and Brook are currently batting, with Brook entering the game after his impressive performance of scoring 31 runs off seven balls in the previous match. Although Brook starts quite slowly, he manages to score a single with a leading edge and then makes a two-point shot. This brings England to an outstanding score of 250 runs, a feat they have never achieved before in this particular format of the game. Back in the 1960s, they sometimes didn't even reach this score in an entire day of play.
Phil Salt Fired From The Job!
The blog post reports on how Salt, playing for England, didn't manage to hit a full toss ball thrown by Dre Russ, who delivered the ball from an angle that caused the ball to come straight at Salt. The ball missed Salt's bat and could have hit him instead of the stumps. Unfortunately for Salt, he had to leave the game after scoring 119 runs in 57 balls. However, his 109 not out performance in the previous game combined with his performance in this game may be considered the best consecutive innings ever played in T20 international games.
In the 18th over, England's score is at 238-2 with Salt scoring 119 runs and Livingstone with 37 runs. The over has its ups and downs. Forde began with a wide and gave Livingstone a few easy runs, but he managed to recover and focus on bowling yorkers. The last three balls resulted in a single, followed by two dots. Overall, it was a success for Forde.
Three Consecutive Sixes Again
In the 17th over, England's score was 237-2 with Salt making 119 runs and Livingstone contributing 36. But wait, we have some exciting news! While facing Matthew Forde, Livingstone just hit three consecutive sixes!
Salt Achieves Career-best!
In the 17th over of the cricket match, the score was 218-2 with Salt scoring 119 and Livingstone scoring 18. Powell decided to use Motie as a bowler. In this over, Salt hit a six over midwicket, which helped Motie to get his half-century. Motie's final figures were 4-0-55-0. Salt also achieved a new career best, surpassing his previous record of 109. It seems like Salt is in great form and may continue playing well.
In the 16th over of the match, England's score was 204-2 with Salt scoring 107 runs and Livingstone contributing 16 runs. Livingstone thought that Salt should take a break, so he faced Holder and scored a four by playing a cut and a six by attempting a hook shot (although it wasn't hit perfectly, it still counted as a safe shot since there wasn't a fielder guarding that area). Salt returned to the pitch after his break and hit a powerful pull shot that went for six over long-on. The chaos continued as usual.
In the 15th over of the game, the England team was at a score of 183-2 with Salt having reached a milestone of 100 runs and Livingstone at a score of 3. Powell decided to reintroduce Motie into the game, however, Motie's first ball was not delivered well and was easily hit for a four by Salt. After that, England team consistently scored singles against Motie, allowing Salt to easily reach his 100 runs. He expressed his joy by shouting intensely.
Phil Salt Scores Hundred!
Wow! This is unbelievable! It's very uncommon to score hundreds in T20 cricket games, and this player has managed to do it twice within just four days. In this game, he hit 100 runs off 48 balls – amazing, right? I wonder if IPL team owners are allowed to reconsider their choices.
In the 14th over, England's score was 175-2 with Salt at 94 and Livingstone at 1. Hosein was responsible for the wicket, not just because he tricked Jacks, but because he managed to control the game. His over only cost three points, which is quite impressive. Jacks deserves recognition for his performance as he only scored one point from six balls on Saturday, but today he played exceptionally well and got 24 points from nine balls.
Jacks Out For 24, England Score 173-2
Jack attempts a big sweep, but misses the ball completely. His shot seems to be a clear miss, and even after reviewing the footage, it is still ruled as such.
19-ball Partnership Yields Fifty Runs!
In the 13th over, England's score is 172-1 with Salt making 92 runs and Jacks with 24 runs. There were two balls that didn't score any points, but there were two sixes. Salt hit one over midwicket, while Jacks hit one over extra-cover. They have succeeded in adding 55 points to their score in just 19 balls. The two dots were also executed well. One ball was angled towards Salt's pads, but he missed it. The next one was a perfect yorker. The run rate stayed constant at 13.
Consecutive Dot Balls!
We commend you, Dre Russ.
In the twelfth over of the match, England scored 158-1 with Salt on 85 and Jacks on 17. Hosein came back to bowl his third over, but Jacks showed no mercy. He hit a reverse sweep and scored four runs due to a mistake made by Motie. Following that, he hit another reverse sweep but this time, he scored six runs. The over ended with 16 runs added to the score and the partnership between Salt and Jacks had reached 41 runs in only 13 deliveries. The current run rate was 13.
In the 11th over of the match, England has scored 142 runs with only one wicket down. During a recent event in Grenada, Will Jacks was shy and didn't speak much. He struggled in his first few balls, only scoring one run out of six. However, he seems to have learned from his mistakes. He starts off better this time, hitting the last ball of Holder's over for two runs. He then hits a four off Sherfane Rutherford's bowling. Salt, the other batsman, hits Rutherford for three consecutive sixes, all on the leg side. This over turns out to be the most expensive of the innings with 23 runs scored.
After playing for 9.5 overs, England's score is now at 117-1 with Salt getting a total of 61 points. Throughout the series, England has managed to make three partnerships that have reached 75 points or more, and all of them were made possible by Mr. Buttler and Mr. Salt. However, the latest partnership of 117 points is the biggest one out of all three, surpassing their previous 115 points achieved in Grenada last Saturday.
Buttler Falls For 55, Holder Takes The Wicket
Finally, there was some progress made. Buttler made an attempt to hit the ball high and straight once more, however, he was unsuccessful. Consequently, Powell, who will soon become his colleague on the Rajasthan Royals team, was able to make an easy catch.
Buttler And Fifty Hit Hundred Partnership!
In the 9th over, England's score was 112-0 with Salt having 59 runs and Buttler 52. Gudakesh Motie was the bowler for this over and he couldn't stop the onslaught. Salt managed to swing one towards the leg side, while Buttler chipped one effortlessly over the fielder at cover. Buttler also hit another straight down the ground, making it a total of three sixes in the over.
"Prior to hitting sixes consecutively, Buttler executed a reverse sweep to score two runs and complete a century. He has also achieved a fifty, taking only 26 balls to reach this milestone. The previous over saw him score 21 runs, making it hard for me to keep track!"
In the eighth over of the game, England's score stood at 91 runs with no wickets lost yet. Salt had scored 52 runs while Buttler had contributed 38 runs. The over had brought in eleven runs, which was pretty average for this innings so far. However, Salt and Buttler were performing a challenging task with such ease, and it was quite impressive to witness.
"Phil Salt Scores Fifty!"
Salt hits Andre Russell's delivery towards the boundary line for a four. He follows it up by gently tapping the ball for another four runs, enabling him to score another fifty runs in just 23 balls. This latest achievement includes five fours and three sixes, bringing his total score to 159 runs since his last out.
During the seventh over, England had achieved a score of 80 with no wickets lost while Salt and Buttler had scored 42 and 37 runs respectively. Powell decided to swap out another bowler, this time bringing on Gudakesh Motie. However, like several other bowlers earlier in the game, Motie managed to bowl a decent half-over before being hit for boundaries. Buttler executed some exceptional leg glances and reverse sweeps, making fans wonder why he couldn't perform like this during the World Cup.
The sixth over of the match between England and their opponent sees England score a total of 68 runs without losing any wickets. Salt and Buttler are the batsmen at the crease. Rovman Powell, the captain of the opposing team, decides to bring on his fourth bowler, Jason Holder. He manages to restrict England to just ten runs in his over. However, Salt finishes the Powerplay on a high note with a spectacular shot, where he plays a lofted off drive with a combination of power and finesse. It's a shame that those cricket enthusiasts in India, who might still be awake to watch the match, didn't scout him earlier.
In the fifth over of the cricket match, England's score was 58-0 with Salt having scored 31 runs and Buttler with 27. Forde returned to bowl, but unfortunately for him, he couldn't prevent England from scoring more runs due to his poor positioning without a fine leg. Buttler managed to hit a four while Salt scored four and then followed up with two consecutive sixes, first with a pull and then a straight drive. The team scored 22 runs in that over, and Salt's first six helped them reach the fifty milestone with only 29 balls played. Poor Forde, after two overs in this match format, had career stats of zero wickets for 34 runs.
In the fourth over of the match, England has scored 36 runs without losing any wickets. Hosein, who has managed to get Buttler out twice before in this series, almost gets another wicket with a mistimed chip that narrowly misses the fielder diving to his left at extra-cover. However, the ball ends up crossing the boundary line and adds four runs to the total. Soon after, Buttler hits a six with a reverse sweep and then hits another four with an orthodox shot, taking advantage of the situation. David Gower, the commentator, observes that the second shot was set up by a fake move, which is not listed in the MCC Coaching Book.
In the third over, England has scored 21 runs with Salt getting 13 and Buttler getting 8. It was originally reported that Kyle Mayers would not be playing, but he ended up coming on to bowl. There was talk of Johnson Charles possibly playing instead, but that turned out to be false. Mayers started off bowling well with his moderate pace, but Buttler managed to hit a four over mid-off. Unfortunately, Brandon King got injured and had to leave the field, and the camera focused on two drummers who were playing.
In the second over of the match, the England team has scored 14 runs without losing any wicket. Salt has scored 12 runs and Buttler has scored 2 runs. Akeal Hosein is bowling from the other end and he is now trying to spin the ball. Although he had difficulties in the previous match, he is starting well in this match. In his first few deliveries, he bowls three dots to Buttler, making it difficult for him to hit a boundary. Buttler tries to move to the leg side and hits the ball towards off side and manages to take one run. Salt flicks the ball to square leg and they manage to take one run. In his last delivery, Buttler hits a thick edge, but fails to score runs. Overall, Hosein bowled an excellent over and England did not manage to score many runs from it. At this point in the match, no team has an advantage over the other.
First inning: England scores 12 points without losing any wickets (Salt with 11 points and Buttler with 1 point). Forde starts with an impressive swing towards the two right-handed players. Phil Salt manages to score one point on the first ball and Jos Buttler copies him two balls later. Forde has only given away two points after four balls. Suddenly, Salt hits a magnificent six over mid-off by advancing down the track. He repeats the same move again and hits it along the ground. England is now in the lead.
It appears that we'll be beginning as scheduled. Matthew Forde, who is making his debut in T20 internationals, was recently given his cap and is now in possession of the new ball.
Insights From The Field
Simon Burnton is reporting from Trinidad for us and had some insights before the team announcements. He mentioned that the field covers were recently put on, even though there was no rain. He also shared that he's heard two England team changes are expected and believes Chris Woakes and Rehan Ahmed will make a comeback. The Guardian is always up to date on the latest news.
Simon continued by mentioning a recent incident where Trinidadians were considering boycotting this upcoming match as a sign of protest against the exclusion of Darren Bravo from the ODI squad. This group believed that there was a clear bias against Trinidadians on the part of the West Indies selectors. It will be intriguing to observe the attendance of the crowd in this light. Also, Simon informed that the covers are being removed, which is a relief.
Briefly: Teams Make Two Changes Each
The West Indies team has made two similar changes, replacing Kyle Mayers with Johnson Charles as the opening batsman and substituting Alzarri Joseph with Matthew Forde in the fast bowling department.
England will replace Tymal Mills and Gus Atkinson with Chris Woakes and Rehan Ahmed. This will give the team more spinners, perhaps up to five. The team will have two leg spin bowlers in Ahmed and Rashid, as well as two off spinners in Moeen and Jacks. Additionally, they will have an all-rounder in Livingstone who can offer a combination of both spin styles.
West Indies Choose To Field First
Samuel Badree is the one in charge of the toss. Jos Buttler chooses heads, but the result shows tails.
"I'm sure you are aware of our plan, Badree," Rovman Powell says while grinning. "We will be choosing to field first."
Buttler has expressed that he also would have undertaken the same action.
Good evening, everyone! We're back with the latest episode of an exciting prime-time drama. While it may not be as exciting as England's recent win in Grenada, there's still a lot at stake in this episode.
If England fails to win in Trinidad tonight, they will lose both the T20 and ODI series. This will leave no room for debate on whether they were a match for the strong comeback of the West Indies team. Conversely, if they win, the T20 series will be evenly tied at 2-2. This victory will provide England with the necessary momentum to potentially take the series.
During this intense five-set match, Phil Salt has taken on the role of Andy Murray. Although he doesn't have a contract with England or the IPL, he has been the star of this series. With a total of 174 runs, he has outperformed all other players, including Rovman Powell who comes in second with 50 fewer runs. Even when compared to the combined efforts of Jos Buttler (95 runs) and Liam Livingstone (74 runs), Salt still comes out on top. Not only has he excelled in his batting, but he's also proven to be a skilled long-range shooter with the most sixes in the series (11, one ahead of Powell). What's even more impressive is that he managed to hit nine of those sixes in scorching hot weather, showcasing his unwavering determination and perseverance.
One of the standout performers among the bowlers has been Adil Rashid, a player who was not selected for the Indian Premier League. Rashid has taken six wickets for 68 runs in 12 overs and continues to excel. This has helped England to dominate in terms of spin, with 11 wickets at an average of 23, while the West Indies have only managed five wickets at an average of 28. However, the West Indies have had greater success with their seamers, taking 15 wickets at an average of 28, compared to England's eight wickets at an average of 38.
The match that will take place today is scheduled to start at 4pm, at the Brian Lara Academy located in Tarouba. Although the game starts at a later time, the weather is expected to remain scorching hot. It is projected to be 31 degrees at the beginning of the match and eventually decrease to 27 degrees toward the end. The coin toss will occur at 3:30 pm in the local time zone, 7:30 pm in the Greenwich Meridian Time zone. After the coin toss, I will provide an update with the teams playing.
