England vs Ireland: Final ODI in Bristol abandoned to rain to see hosts clinch series 1-0
The last one-day match between England and Ireland in Bristol was called off due to rain, resulting in England winning the three-game series 1-0.
During the cricket match, it was possible to play for thirty-one overs. The England team did an excellent job of batting and managed to score 280-4. They were on the right track to potentially break their world-record score of 498-4 and become the very first team to achieve a total of 500 in this format. Unfortunately, the heavy rain caused the match to come to a halt.
Ben Duckett achieved his first ODI century after facing 72 balls, hitting two sixes and 12 boundaries. He remained unbeaten at 107 when heavy rain stopped the game.
The rain was brief but intense, and the people in charge of maintaining the playing field didn't react quickly enough. As a result, large puddles formed on the grass, making it impossible to resume the cricket match. This was an unfortunate and somewhat comical way to end the international cricket season.
The team from England who will be competing in the World Cup are flying to India this week for their next matches. They will be playing two preparatory games, one against India on September 30th and the next against Bangladesh on October 2nd. After these warm-up matches, they will begin the tournament by playing New Zealand on October 5th, which will be a rematch of the 2019 final.
