James Maddison and Curtis Jones did not make it to England's list of 26 players for the Euro 2024.

Maddison, who was a substitute in England's victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina, has departed from the team. Similarly, Jones is not likely to be involved in the upcoming friendly match versus Iceland on Friday.

Gareth Southgate needs to reduce his 33-player squad to 26 before 11pm on Friday. This falls shortly after England's ultimate warm-up game for Euro 2024 against Iceland at Wembley.

The start of the Euro 2024 tournament for England is set to take place on June 16, with Serbia being their first opponent.

Maddison is still anticipating his debut in a significant international tournament with England. Although he was selected for the squad for the 2022 World Cup, as a midfielder for Tottenham, he did not get the chance to step onto the field, and his team was knocked out in the quarter-finals.

England has not given Jones the opportunity to play for their national team.

According to the voting results of Sky Sports' readers, Maddison has come in last place.

We conducted a survey on Sky Sports' digital platforms to determine the forwards who would be included in England's Euro 2024 team.

We had a survey where we listed Ollie Watkins, Ivan Toney, Jack Grealish, Jarrod Bowen, Anthony Gordon, Eberech Eze and Maddison as choices and the Tottenham striker got the least number of votes.

He only received 5% of the total votes, which is lesser than Bowen, who got 6%, Gordon with 10%, Toney with 11% and Grealish with 12%.

Watkins was the highest-voted contender, receiving 32% of the votes, while Eze came second with 24%.

"Maddison's Setback, Grealish's Gain"

Rob Dorsett, who is a senior reporter for Sky Sports News, has made some interesting comments.

It seems very probable that Jack Grealish will be included in the squad, as Maddison has been left out. Both Maddison and Grealish have been categorized as pure left-wingers, and Maddison is unable to play in the No 10 position due to competition from Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, and now Eberechi Eze.

Both Maddison and Grealish have comparable playing styles as they excel at penetrating through defenders and acquiring fouls. As a result, Maddison may be at a disadvantage while Grealish may benefit from this.

Maddison is deeply saddened. I can understand how much he desires to represent England and how dedicated he is.

Check out what occurred in Qatar during 2022 - there was an immense demand for him since he was performing excellently. Southgate selected him, but unfortunately, he sustained an injury that lingered on and affected his performance.

Even though he didn't get to play during the World Cup, I heard he had a tremendously positive impact on the team. His cheerful expression could be seen in every moment during his time at the England camp.

"Southgate recognizes the importance of the player's skill, but he has not displayed enough performance for Spurs to secure a position in the highly competitive spot within the England team."

Maddison's England Departure Was Expected

For an easier time accessing the video player, it is recommended to use the Chrome web browser.

Sam Blitz, a sports journalist from Sky Sports, stated that...

Maddison had an impressive start in the Premier League with three goals and five assists in just nine games for Tottenham. His performance was so remarkable that he was considered a strong candidate for the Player of the Season award and even a spot in the England Euros squad.

Nine months back, he was a definite selection, but presently, he is the initial player to be excluded from the enlarged selection of the England team.

It's not really unexpected news. He hasn't been performing as well as he did at the beginning of the season for Spurs. He only made a few Premier League goals since March 10, and those were against Burnley and Sheffield United. Additionally, he didn't start in a match for England against Bosnia because it was an improvised line-up.

His progress was interrupted by an injury that kept him out for three months during the season. Unfortunately, Maddison has not been able to regain his form since then, and this has been a trend in his recent seasons. Over the last five years, he has started well but ended up performing poorly. This is definitely not good news for a player who hopes to be selected for international tournaments in the summer.

Maybe the displays of Eze and Cole Palmer in their game versus Bosnia had an impact on Southgate's decision-making. The two players, who possess a mix of attacking and wide-midfielder skills, exhibited remarkable performances during the friendly and might have surpassed Maddison in terms of priority.

Additionally, Bellingham and Foden are exceptional choices which implies that the athlete who was highly requested to be included in the 2022 World Cup team and barely made it, is now the initial player to be excluded from the Euro team.

'Jones Hit By Expected Setback'

Rob Dorsett, a senior reporter for Sky Sports News, has stated that...

Southgate is being practical by informing the players he knows won't be participating in the upcoming match against Iceland. He is making these announcements beforehand. For those players who may be required in case of injuries, Southgate will disclose this information on Saturday morning.

Curtis Jones has been dealt a setback, even though he was unexpectedly picked for the training squad. This is because Harvey Elliott had more playing time than him towards the end of the season. However, Gareth Southgate has a high regard for Jones and views him as a vital player for upcoming games. In the past, Southgate has mentioned that Jones was on his radar and hinted that he would be chosen for spring internationals if he was able to participate.

As far as I know, Jones received the same information as Maddison, who has already departed from the camp. It appears that Jones won't participate in the game against Iceland.

Who's In England's 31-player Training Squad?

The chosen goalkeepers for the project are Jordan Pickford from Everton, Dean Henderson from Crystal Palace, Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal, and James Trafford from Burnley.

Defenders: Jarrad Branthwaite (from Everton), Lewis Dunk (from Brighton), Joe Gomez (from Liverpool), Marc Guehi (from Crystal Palace), Ezri Konsa (from Aston Villa), Harry Maguire (from Manchester United), Jarell Quansah (from Liverpool), Luke Shaw (from Man Utd), John Stones (from Manchester City), Kieran Trippier (from Newcastle), and Kyle Walker (from Manchester City) are all included in this list.

Players in the midfield position include Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool, Conor Gallagher from Chelsea, Kobbie Mainoo from Manchester United, Declan Rice from Arsenal, and Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace.

Here are the football players who play the forward position: Jude Bellingham is on Real Madrid, Jarrod Bowen is on West Ham, Eberechi Eze plays for Crystal Palace, Phil Foden is on Manchester City, Jack Grealish will play on Manchester City, Anthony Gordon is on Newcastle, Harry Kane plays on Bayern Munich, Cole Palmer is playing for Chelsea, Bukayo Saka is on Arsenal, Ivan Toney plays on Brentford, and Ollie Watkins is playing for Aston Villa.
