Jack Grealish, Harry Maguire and James Maddison left out of England squad for Euro 2024 by Gareth Southgate

England squad

The final selection of players for Euro 2024 has been announced and unfortunately, Jack Grealish and Harry Maguire did not make the cut.

Maguire is not able to participate in the upcoming game because of his calf injury, which has prevented him from playing since mid-April. On the other hand, Luke Shaw from the same team, Manchester United, is selected for the game even though he hasn't played since February due to a hamstring injury.

Both Anthony Gordon and Jarrod Bowen have been chosen instead of Jack Grealish, a footballer who was acquired by Man City for a whopping £100 million after winning the Premier League three times while playing for Aston Villa in 2021.

James Maddison and Curtis Jones were also excluded, as Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton - who had not played for his country until their recent victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina - and Eberechi Eze were chosen instead. As a result, Crystal Palace now has the highest number of players represented in the squad with a total of four.

Southgate has chosen four possible center-backs to team up with John Stones- Marc Guehi, Lewis Dunk, Joe Gomez and Ezri Konsa. However, he decided to not include Jarrad Branthwaite and Jarell Quansah in the selection. Although, the rising star of Liverpool's defense, Quansah, has still been kept on as a backup option.

In the meantime, Gareth Southgate, the manager of England's football team, has announced that Luke Shaw, a left-back player, has successfully secured a spot in the final 26-member roster. Moreover, he added that Shaw may recover from his injury and be able to play in England's second group match against Denmark on the 20th of June.

The young Manchester United player, Kobbie Mainoo, recently played for his national team against Brazil in March. He's now been chosen by Southgate, along with Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins, to support Harry Kane during upcoming games.

England has the option to make adjustments to their team roster until their initial match at the Euros versus Serbia on June 16, given that a player has gone through an injury or ailment. In addition, goalies can be substituted during the entire tournament.

"Southgate Clarifies Selection Decisions"

Gareth Southgate, the manager of the English team, spoke to the press after receiving the news.

The players who were left out reacted to the news with maturity and showed great respect. It's only natural for players to feel disappointed when they are not selected, but top players possess a sense of confidence and determination that sets them apart.

The truth is, we have some players who have exhibited excellent performances throughout the entire season in the league. However, we believe that certain players have had superior seasons, especially in the recent six-month period.

The other night, we witnessed exceptional showings that emphasized this point. When it comes to the offensive side of the field, we are fortunate enough to have various choices, each of which has its unique qualities.

We suggest utilizing the Chrome web browser to ensure an improved and easier-to-use video player experience.

It was a difficult decision to exclude Madders (Maddison) and Jack (Grealish) from the team, as they could have brought a unique aspect to our gameplay.

As a team of employees, we have discussed these phone conversations multiple times in an effort to ensure fairness and use proper reasoning.

We stand by our choices, although we acknowledge that there were other options available. The guys are highly spirited individuals, exceptional comrades, and delightful individuals to collaborate with. It's disheartening to have to disclose this information to them.

"Trent has the ability to play in both midfield and defence positions. During the last few tournaments, we had a total of nine defenders and I reckon our team has remained unchanged in that aspect."

One of the factors that prevented us from acquiring Harry Maguire was the need to bring in another defender, which would have made it ten total. This would have unbalanced our team, leaving us with deficiencies in other positions.

Harry has improved slightly, but the journey has been difficult, and we wouldn't have selected him for the initial rounds. We faced many obstacles and uncertain outcomes while trying to make it work.

Being aware that our defense is not completely healthy, we require players who are in proper condition and prepared to play from the beginning.

"It was a tough decision to make since I have a lot of respect for Harry and his contributions to the England team and to me as a coach. While it's not exactly the same situation as with Grealish and Maddison, it's still a challenging choice to make."

Maguire Is Devastated, Maddison Surprised

Maguire expressed his deep disappointment on social media for not being chosen to represent England in the Euros this summer.

Even though I tried my hardest, I haven't been able to recover from my calf injury. Perhaps I exerted myself too much in an attempt to recover quickly. To put it plainly, I feel devastated.

Maddison expressed on his Twitter account that he was extremely saddened by the situation. Despite working hard and putting in great effort throughout the week, he admits that his performance for Spurs could have been better, especially after recovering from an injury during the latter half of the season. This likely led to Gareth making a tough decision about Maddison's place on the team.

I believed that I could still make it to the 26-man team since I have a unique contribution to offer, and I have played a crucial role in the entire qualification process.

Grealish Left Out: An Analysis

We recommend using the Chrome web browser to access our video player with greater ease.

Rob Dorsett, a senior reporter for Sky Sports News, stated:

Grealish has suffered a significant setback that came as a surprise. He made the choice to arrive early for practice as a member of the Manchester City team that competed in the FA Cup final.

He came as soon as he could to demonstrate his physical readiness and indicate his strong desire to join this team, but Southgate believes that there are more suitable candidates elsewhere.

Eberechi Eze's display versus Bosnia highlighted his unique skills that distinguish him from other candidates Southgate can choose from.

He's straightforward and forces defenders to move swiftly when he runs. Maybe Maddison and Grealish have a slight resemblance when it comes to shifting in towards the left.

Eze moves at a faster and more direct pace than the rest of the players, and I believe it is important to note that Jarrod Bowen played the entire game.
