Gareth Southgate, the manager of the England national football team, has excluded Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson from the provisional list of 33 players for the Euro 2024 tournament.

This season has been a challenge for Rashford who plays as a forward for Manchester United. He has only been able to score seven goals and provide two assists in his 33 league appearances.

He participated in seven matches for England this season before getting excluded from the team that played against Belgium in March. Currently, he has not been selected as a part of Southgate's training team.

Rashford shared a picture of the team on social media and provided them with heartfelt wishes for the competition, stating "I hope Gareth and the boys do exceptionally well!"

Last summer, Henderson decided to leave Liverpool and join Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia. However, he left the team in January and decided to join Ajax, who were having a difficult season.

After moving to the Saudi Pro League, Southgate still chose him for the team. However, during his first game back in England against Australia at Wembley in October, some England fans booed him even though it made no sense to the England manager.

Henderson was selected to be part of the team for the friendly matches against Brazil and Belgium in March but did not get the chance to play.

Southgate needs to let go of at least seven players when he announces his ultimate team of 26 players for the championship in Germany, and he has to do it before midnight on 7th June.

The selected goalkeepers for the team are Dean Henderson from Crystal Palace, Jordan Pickford from Everton, Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal, and James Trafford from Burnley.

There are some solid defenders named for the upcoming game. They include Jarrad Branthwaite, Lewis Dunk, Joe Gomez, Marc Guehi, Ezri Konsa, Harry Maguire, Jarell Quansah, Luke Shaw, John Stones, Kieran Trippier, and Kyle Walker. These players come from various teams such as Everton, Brighton, Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Manchester United, and Manchester City. They all have what it takes to defend the field and help their team win.

The middle players in soccer are Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool, Conor Gallagher from Chelsea, Curtis Jones from Liverpool, Kobbie Mainoo from Manchester United, Declan Rice from Arsenal, and Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace.

These are the attacking players who made it onto our list of top performers: Jude Bellingham, who plays for Real Madrid, Jarrod Bowen from West Ham, Eberechi Eze who plays for Crystal Palace, Phil Foden from Manchester City, Jack Grealish who also plays for Manchester City, Anthony Gordon from Newcastle, Harry Kane from Bayern Munich, James Maddison from Tottenham, Cole Palmer who plays for Chelsea, Bukayo Saka from Arsenal, Ivan Toney from Brentford, and Ollie Watkins who plays for Aston Villa.

Initial Squad Includes Five New Players

Southgate has chosen a group of five young players, including Jarrad Branthwaite, Curtis Jones, Jarell Quansah, Adam Wharton, and James Trafford. These players have no maximum limit or restriction on the amount of playing time they can receive.

Branthwaite, a 21-year-old centre-back for Everton, played an important role in ensuring his team's safety in the Premier League this season. Meanwhile, Liverpool's 21-year-old centre-back Quansah and 23-year-old Jones, who plays in the midfield position, helped the Reds achieve a third-place finish in the top league.

Wharton, who is only 20 years old, showcased his skills upon joining Palace from Blackburn Rovers during the winter transfer window. His fellow team members, including Eberechi Eze, Marc Guehi, and Dean Henderson, have also received recognition from Southgate.

Trafford didn't get a chance to play for Burnley after being replaced in March. He was chosen for the England team in March as a replacement for Sam Johnstone, but he hasn't had the opportunity to play for his country just yet.

Additional footballers who have secured their spot in the roster include Jarrod Bowen of West Ham as a forward, Jack Grealish of Manchester City as a winger, and Ivan Toney of Brentford as a striker. Manchester United's Kobbie Mainoo and left-back Luke Shaw have also made it to the list.

19-year-old Mainoo recently participated in friendly matches for England against Brazil and Belgium. This season, he has played in 31 games for Manchester United and has managed to score four goals.

Shaw hasn't been able to play since February due to a muscular injury.

The team will gather together on Wednesday, May 29 before their exhibition games against Bosnia-Herzegovina on June 3 and Iceland on June 7.

Southgate's team will begin their Euro 2024 journey by competing against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen on 16 June in a Group C match.

Anyone Else Missed Out?

Besides Rashford and Henderson, there are other significant players missing from the lineup such as Ben Chilwell, Eric Dier, Reece James, Jadon Sancho, Dominic Solanke, Raheem Sterling, and Ben White.

Chilwell, who usually plays on the left side, was not selected, even though there were worries about Shaw's fitness. Additionally, James, who usually plays right-back, and winger Sterling from Chelsea are not present.

Ever since coming back from a long-lasting injury during the month of May, James has only had a chance to play two matches, and Sterling hasn't featured for England since their loss against France during the 2022 World Cup.

Solanke participated in every one of Bournemouth's 38 Premier League matches during the previous season. He achieved a total of 19 goals and 3 assists. As for White, he has informed the England team that he is not currently available to play for them.

Sancho, who plays as a winger, is currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund from Manchester United. Even though he played a part in helping the German club make it to the final of the Champions League, Southgate did not choose him.

Dier, who played as a centre-back for Bayern Munich in the Champions League and is now back to playing regularly after departing from Tottenham, did not make the cut due to insufficient performance.
