In the round of 32 at the Porsche Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Emma Raducanu secured a strong victory with an impressive score of 6-2, 6-1 against previous two-time winner Angelique Kerber.
After aiding Great Britain in making it to the finals of the Billie Jean King Cup over the weekend, Radcuanu sustained her impressive performance on clay and effortlessly defeated the local favorite.
Raducanu and Kerber recently competed as wild cards in Stuttgart. Raducanu had to take a break from tennis to undergo three surgeries, causing her to drop in the rankings.
In the meantime, the previous top-ranked player in the world, Kerber, just made a comeback after taking a break for 18 months due to maternal leave.
Raducanu had an impressive beginning as she managed to break Kerber in the very first game. Although the German tried to fight back, Raducanu took charge and secured the first set in just 41 minutes, displaying the form that won her the 2021 US Open title.
Kerber had her serve broken at the beginning of the second set. Despite managing to reach a tie, Raducanu increased her performance and quickly completed a dominant victory. Even a short interruption from the trainer did not hinder Raducanu's outstanding play.
In Stuttgart, Coco Gauff, the current US Open title holder, came back from being behind 4-2 in the final set to defeat Sachia Vickery, another American player who is ranked at 134 in the world, in a tight match that went 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
Tunisia's tennis player, Ons Jabeur, managed to end her unfortunate run of five consecutive losses by defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova in a tense match that went 2-6 6-3 7-6 (1). Speaking to the press after the game, Jabeur admitted that she had contemplated withdrawing from the competition due to her losing streak, which had taken a toll on her.
Naomi Osaka didn't have much luck during her comeback on clay in Rouen since she lost in the opening round to Martina Trevisan with a score of 6-4 6-2.
Similar to Kerber, Osaka has also recently come back to the tour after taking a break for maternity reasons. Furthermore, she was competing as a wild card.
At the Oeiras Ladies Open held in Portugal, Harriet Dart from the United Kingdom, who was ranked fifth, experienced a loss of 6-3 6-1 to Matilde Jorge, a player from Portugal.
