Emma Raducanu is the most recent player to pull out of this month's Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open, mere hours after Naomi Osaka had to exit the tournament due to an injury.

Raducanu has been healing from a foot injury that caused her to pull out of her quarter-final match against Daria Kasatkina at the Korea Open a month ago. As a result, she has already skipped four tournaments during the WTA's Asian leg, including the China Open, as well as events in Wuhan, Ningbo, and Guangzhou this week.

Another Grand Slam champion, Sofia Kenin, who was born in Moscow and represents the United States, has taken her place at the Victoria Park Tennis Stadium event starting next Monday.

The 25-year-old, currently ranked 26th globally, is competing in the Toray Pan Pacific Open this week in Tokyo. She is set to play against Clara Tauson from Denmark in the round of 16 on Wednesday.

The Danish player ranked No. 2, who was defeated by Ajla Tomljanovic in the final of the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis 125 earlier this month, is anticipated to come back to Causeway Bay for the WTA 250 tournament.

Radacuna's decision to withdraw isn't particularly shocking, considering the struggles she's faced to maintain her fitness since her unexpected victory over Leylah Fernandez at the US Open in 2021. Supporters were looking forward to witnessing the two athletes reignite their rivalry in Hong Kong, where Fernandez is the reigning champion.
