Eminem, After Opposing A Trademark App Over The Word ‘Shady’, Is Ducking Deposition
"Rising From The Please-stand-up Department"
Earlier this year, we wrote about a legal battle over a trademark between Eminem and two stars of The Real Housewives of Potomac, Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon. The dispute arose from the trademark application that Bryant and Dixon filed for their podcast titled "Reasonably Shady." Eminem's legal team opposed this application, claiming that all things "shady" belonged to the rapper. However, this argument is plainly ridiculous, as many other entities use the same word in their names. Moreover, the word "shady" does not necessarily link every person to Eminem. Therefore, there is no reason to believe that this would confuse the public, especially when it comes to seeking out a podcast.
Bryant and Dixon are struggling to combat the resistance, but it seems that Eminem is unwilling to participate in a deposition for his own opposing side.
The cast members of "Real Housewives of Potomac" are getting fed up with Eminem. They allege that the rapper is unwilling to attend a deposition. Gizelle and Robyn assert that his representatives have informed them that it would be too bothersome for him to appear. Instead, they propose sending a representative from his company. This individual would have more knowledge of the paperwork, promotions, and advertisements.
Gizelle and Robyn are determined to ensure that Slim Shady is held accountable. They insist that he needs to show up and take responsibility. If he doesn't, they feel that he should step aside. The lawyer representing the duo stated that it would not be acceptable to use being too busy as an excuse to avoid being questioned under oath. The legal representative pointed out that Gizelle and Robyn are managing to find time in their schedules to be questioned under oath, and suggested that Eminem should do the same to fulfill his obligation.
I personally don't believe that Eminem, who is both an artist and a successful businessman, will impart any significantly beneficial knowledge to the world by simply attending a deposition. However, his legal team is under his management and thus accountable to him. With that being said, beginning legal proceedings to oppose something and then failing to appear to protect that opposition isn't exactly a charming maneuver. It's either significant enough to see through or it's not.
At the moment, Gizelle and Robyn are correct. You can either engage in your disagreement or let it go. Otherwise, they both remain in a state of uncertainty.
Based on papers from a reliable source shown to RadarOnline, the US Patent and Trademark Office has put a stop to the legal process surrounding Eminem's case. This is until a judgment has been reached on Gizelle and Robyn's request. It could imply that the rapper might be required to give a testimony regarding the Shady brand infringement case.
In my personal opinion, he's going too far. I've been a fan of him for quite some time now. However, the situation is a complete disaster. Any true Eminem fan won't be convinced that he supports a podcast about the Real Housewives. It would be best if he just forgot about this one.
