In Paddington In Peru, Emily steps into the position of the Brown family matriarch, a role previously played by Sally Hawkins, who chose not to reprise her part in the third installment of the series.

During Friday's episode of his BBC talk show, Graham Norton spoke with the Bafta nominee, who revealed that she experienced feelings of self-doubt before stepping into the role.

She expressed that it was wonderful to be married to Hugh [Bonneville, her co-star], which made certain aspects easier for her. However, she admitted that it was still nerve-wracking to take on such an amazing opportunity.

Emily added, “I was concerned about feeling like a fraud because I didn’t think I could match the incredible performance Sally delivered.”

"The only thing I could do was present my own take and wish it would be at least somewhat comparable."

"I realize this might sound cliché, but honestly, it’s the most wonderful and warm-hearted group, filled with such a considerate and nurturing atmosphere," she remarked. "It may sound sentimental, but I truly believe there's something about Paddington's spirit that brings a sense of comfort to everything."

Sally commented on her choice not to come back: "I believe it's the perfect moment for me to pass on the responsibilities to someone else, and I can't think of anyone better suited than the amazing Emily Mortimer; she is truly exceptional."

“She will capture the spirit of Mary Brown while also putting her own unique twist on it.”

Ben Whishaw reprises his role as the voice of Paddington in the upcoming family film, which features Olivia Colman and Antonio Banderas as the new foes of the Brown family.

Julie Walters reprises her role as the quirky housekeeper Mrs. Bird, despite saying in 2020 that she had stepped away from acting unless it involved another "Mamma Mia!" movie.

Catch the complete interview with Emily Mortimer and Hugh Bonneville on Friday’s episode of The Graham Norton Show, which will be broadcast at 10:40 PM on BBC One.
