'I have lost my eyesight': Elton John unable to watch premiere of his new musical
Sir Elton John couldn't attend the first showing of a new West End musical for which he wrote the lyrics, as he has been experiencing vision loss.
The 77-year-old shared with the crowd at the gala evening for The Devil Wears Prada musical at the Dominion Theatre in London, "I find it difficult to watch the show, but I really enjoy listening to it."
Sir Elton, who composed the music for the musical based on the film and book of the same title, shared, "I haven't been able to attend many of the preview performances because, as you may know, I've lost my vision."
On Sunday, his husband David Furnish joined him offstage, and the singer referred to him as his "foundation."
In a statement last week, the singer revealed that his vision impairment has prevented him from completing his newest album, which he has been working on with his longtime partner Bernie Taupin.
In an interview on ABC News' Good Morning America, he acknowledged that while he was open to doing interviews, he couldn't read or watch anything.
Sir Elton initially spoke about his vision issues in an Instagram post in September, mentioning that he had experienced an infection in one of his eyes.
