Sir Elton John mentioned that he hasn’t been able to see his latest musical, The Devil Wears Prada, because of persistent problems with his vision.

The iconic British pop artist, who composed the music for the West End show, announced in September that a serious eye infection he developed in July has resulted in him losing sight in his right eye and having only partial vision in his left.

During a special evening showcasing The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical on Sunday, December 1st, which aimed to support the Elton John AIDS Foundation, the 77-year-old shared insights about his health challenges.

"I haven't been able to attend many previews lately because, as you know, I've lost my vision. It's challenging for me to see them. However, I really enjoy listening, and it sounded amazing tonight," he shared while on stage.

He also expressed his gratitude to his husband, David Furnish, calling him “my solid support.”

Last week, John shared with Good Morning America that his vision problems were slowing down the progress on a new album he was working on with his longtime partner, Bernie Taupin.

"Sadly, I lost vision in my right eye back in July due to an infection while I was in the South of France," he shared during an interview on November 25. "It's been four months since I lost that sight, and my left eye isn't in great condition either."

He mentioned, "There's a sense of hope and reassurance that everything will turn out fine, but I feel a bit trapped in the present. I can handle projects like this, but when it comes to stepping into the studio to record, I'm uncertain. That's because I can't visualize any lyrics to kick things off."

John shared that he and his medical team are actively working on a plan to address his eye issues, but he emphasized that it’s always unfortunate for situations like this to arise.

"It really took me by surprise, and I can't see a thing. I can't read anything or watch anything," he expressed.

One of the attendees at Sunday’s event was Anna Wintour. The editor of Vogue has been speculated for a long time to have inspired the character Miranda Priestly, the tough magazine executive in The Devil Wears Prada.

Wintour stated to the BBC, "It's up to the audience and my colleagues to determine if they see any resemblances between me and Miranda Priestly."

The play reflects the film, which is inspired by the 2003 novel by Lauren Weisberger. In it, hopeful journalist Andy Sachs lands a job at the renowned Runway magazine, working for the formidable and influential figure in fashion, Priestly.

As Andy tries to keep up with her boss's expectations, she becomes captivated by the glamorous lifestyle she previously looked down upon, as stated in the promotional content.

Vanessa Williams, known for her roles in Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives, takes on the role of the cold-hearted editor Priestly in this stage adaptation.
