Police ask public not to share images of man in fatal bus collision in Edinburgh
Authorities have requested that the community refrain from circulating "upsetting" photos and videos following the death of a man in Edinburgh on Saturday night.
A 74-year-old man was hit by a single-decker bus in the Cowgate neighborhood of the city, where the streets were bustling with weekend partygoers.
The event sparked intense discussion online, with many people first thinking it might be a Halloween joke.
Local area commander Ch Insp Trisha Clark has asked the public to avoid spreading the disturbing video and to report any troubling content to the appropriate social media sites.
Clark stated, "We know that videos and images are being shared on social media that are upsetting for the family of the deceased and for anyone who comes across them. We kindly ask the public not to share this content out of respect for the family, and to report it to the appropriate social media platforms to stop further distribution."
"There has been a lot of uncertainty, and I want to assure the local community that this was a singular event with no threat to the general public. It was a heartbreaking occurrence. We are looking into the accident, and our traffic officers, along with local officers, are actively conducting their investigations."
Police Scotland announced that they received a call regarding the event around 7:25 PM on Saturday. Several roads nearby were shut down to enable officers to conduct their investigation, but those roads have now been reopened.
Sgt. Louise Birrell from Edinburgh's traffic division expressed: "We are thinking of the family and friends of the man who lost his life. We are conducting thorough investigations to understand all the details surrounding this event."
