Dubai flooding: Fierce storm lashes United Arab Emirates as flights diverted

VIEW NOW: Intense precipitation induces sudden flooding in Dubai

Intense precipitation severely damaged several regions in the Gulf, resulting in sudden floods throughout the area and forcing flights bound for the worldwide's most active global airport to take a different route.

Dubai Airport announced that their activities were "momentarily redirected" - but have then resumed again.

Officials in Oman reported that floods had caused the death of no less than 18 individuals.

Many states experienced a rainfall equivalent to an entire year in just one day.

An uncertified video footage from Dubai International Airport seemed to display aircrafts producing ripples as they maneuvered on flooded airstrips.

The airport has released a statement explaining that flights scheduled to land on Tuesday evening have been redirected because of the persistent and extreme weather conditions in the United Arab Emirates.

The company said that they will still continue with the flight departures. The flights were resumed after a pause of around two hours.

The National Centre of Meteorology for the United Arab Emirates announced a warning about the weather on Tuesday. The vast regions affected by this warning include Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah.

The area of the Gulf is typically recognized for its warm and arid climate, yet significant rainfall that leads to floods has become more frequent in recent times.

Over in Oman, officials have reported that the number of people who have lost their lives in sudden floods has surged to 18. Some individuals are still unaccounted for. Among the fatalities were 10 pupils aged from 10 to 15 years old. They met their untimely demise on 14 April after the off-road transport they were riding in tried to navigate a deluged stretch of land, but was subsequently swept away.

In Bahrain, videos indicated that vehicles were stuck in inundated streets.

As a result of intense rainfall in Dubai, the streets were completely flooded, causing vehicles to move at a sluggish pace.

Experts have correlated the atypical weather with changes in the climate, indicating that extraordinary tempests will become more frequent as global temperatures escalate.

When the average temperature increases by 1 degree Celsius, the atmosphere is able to contain approximately 7% additional moisture. As a consequence, there may be an increase in the amount of water droplets and heavier rainfall, which may occur more rapidly and affect a smaller region.

The United Arab Emirates, which is renowned for its significant oil production, was the venue for the COP28 assembly dealing with global warming issues in the previous year.
