Sancho sends Dortmund into quarter-finals

Dortmund

Over the course of his past seven matches at home in the Champions League, Jadon Sancho has been able to score a total of four goals and provide three assists for Borussia Dortmund.

Thanks to the goals scored by Jadon Sancho and Marco Reus, Borussia Dortmund advanced to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, which is the first time they have done so in three years. Their opponents were PSV Eindhoven.

Dortmund got the first point of the game with Sancho's shot from the border of the field that went low. It happened in just three minutes into the match.

Edin Terzic's team had another goal disallowed because the referees deemed that Niclas Fullkrug was offside when the play was being built up.

Reus took advantage of an error made by PSV during extra time and scored a goal while facing goalkeeper Walter Benitez alone, which resulted in ending the match.

PSV had many chances to even the score but missed them, especially Hirving Lozano. Peter Bosz's team, who leads the Eredivisie table by 10 points, paid the price for being inefficient.

Lozano was subbed in during the second half. He missed the goal from a nearby position, shot directly at the home team's goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, and also failed to hit the target from the perimeter of the field.

PSV had their greatest opportunity just one minute prior to Dortmund scoring their second goal.

The Champions League journey for PSV ended bitterly as Luuk de Jong failed to convert a one-two opportunity, shooting the ball over the target from a close range due to his backwards lean.

The team playing at their own stadium had a chance to score before when Ian Maatsen, a player on loan from Chelsea, took a strong shot that was saved by Benitez. However, soon after that, Sancho started the scoring and Reus, who came on as a substitute, secured Dortmund's spot in the quarter-finals with his goal towards the end of the game.

Dortmund's Crucial Night Sees Sancho Shine

In January, Sancho returned to Dortmund on loan and managed to score his inaugural league goal since his return. The goal came in a nail-biting 2-1 victory over Werder Bremen in the past weekend.

He has now scored 39 goals in the league, which puts him on par with Tony Woodcock as the most successful English scorer in the history of the Bundesliga.

The football player from England scored his first goal in the Champions League since November 2021 and was selected as the best player on the field for his performance.

He got injured during the game after playing for 72 minutes. It seemed as though he had hurt his hamstring. Reus replaced him on the field.

Dortmund will be optimistic that the issue is not severe, as the young player is starting to display the same level of performance he had during his previous time in Germany.

When TNT Sports asked Sancho about the match, he responded that they were aware of the challenges they would face. Nevertheless, their supporters were present, which gave them a significant edge.

Throughout the entire match, we adhered to our strategy and I'm delighted that we came out victorious.

I feel so thankful for scoring that goal for my team. Borussia Dortmund holds a special place in my heart, as this is where I first gained recognition, so I am truly appreciative of them. Additionally, I am grateful to my fellow teammates for having faith in my abilities.
