Twitter swaps bird emblem for Doge meme, as Elon Musk engages in battle with cryptocurrency investors.
A few days after April Fool's Day, some Twitter users noticed that the platform had replaced its well-known blue bird logo with the doge, an internet meme featuring a playful Shiba Inu that also serves as the symbol for a cryptocurrency. The change is a mystery, especially since it happened only a few days after Chief Executive Elon Musk asked a federal court in the U.S. to dismiss a $258 billion lawsuit filed against him by investors in dogecoin. The cryptocurrency takes its name from the meme, and Musk is accused in the lawsuit of participating in a pyramid scheme to promote it. On Friday, Musk's attorneys called the lawsuit a "fantastical work" and said there was nothing illegal about promoting a legitimate cryptocurrency that has a market cap of nearly $10 billion. Dogecoin's price is closely linked to Musk's internet activity, and it reached a record high on the day he hosted Saturday Night Live in 2021. Its price increased significantly after Musk's Friday filing and rose even more after Twitter's logo swap on Monday, according to CoinDesk.
