With so much buzz surrounding this new development, it's safe to say that Doctor Who fans are in for a wild ride!"
Colum Sanson-Regan never imagined that rescuing Kylie Minogue from a bridge would be a part of his duties as a Doctor Who extra.
David Tennant was absent, hence there was a need for a substitute, and the makers believed that Colum bore a resemblance to the doctor.
Colum made a jest saying, "I have rescued Kylie, piloted the Tardis, gripped the screwdriver and experienced Billie Piper gaze into my eyes and express her affection for me."
I inquired of the producer, "Why must I wear the outfit of the physician?" To which they responded, "Because David Tennant is unavailable."
Colum, who is now a father of three, was making additional money before his first child arrived.
Colum remembered feeling confused when he first arrived on set. He was led past the area where the extras typically wait, known as the "cold bus," and taken to a luxurious trailer instead.
It was quite fortunate for Colum to unexpectedly land a major role as Astrid Peth in Doctor Who, alongside the famous Kylie Minogue.
During the shooting of the 2007 Christmas special Voyage of the Damned, the tenth doctor had to exit the set. The producers were on the lookout for someone who could resemble Tennant for a few additional shots that feature his back.
The situation required some ingenuity, so Colum, who was 31 years old at the time, took on the costume associated with the doctor when the iconic sci-fi television series relaunched on the BBC in 2005.
Colum, who is currently 46 years old, was requested by the producers to arrive at the set ahead of time. However, he was unaware that this would be his moment of opportunity.
Out of nowhere, I found myself next to the suit who gave me a script and said 'You'll need this,' Colum reminisced. I couldn't believe what was happening, it felt surreal.
Colum was in complete disbelief when he was suddenly given the opportunity to wear the renowned attire of a doctor.
Afterwards, I decided to get my hair trimmed. While walking, I came across a petite woman from Australia wearing clothes that appeared to be from France. She greeted me and I had to take a second look to realize that I was standing next to Kylie Minogue.
The Aussie vocalist and performer was an avid follower of Doctor Who and had expressed interest in appearing on the show. This resulted in them being cast as the character Astrid Peth, who was a humanoid server and a temporary ally of the Doctor.
He confessed to feeling a little bit overwhelmed by the star's presence.
In his initial contribution to the Voyage of the Damned project, which features a spaceship that looks like the Titanic hurtling towards Earth, he crafted an exhilarating sequence in which violent robotic angels launched a fatal assault.
Colum reminisced about a bridge where there were robot angels that were attempting to shoot. He had to ensure that Kylie did not fall off the bridge.

Colum Sanson-Regan took a selfie in the doctor's outfit while in the dressing room before his leading role in 2007.
"I had to grab hold of her and drag her away from the edge of a cliff. That was the initial task I had to perform at the start of the day."
The writer, who also happens to be a musician, had a performance scheduled with his band in Leicester over the weekend. He found himself constantly thinking about how fortunate he was to have collaborated with Kylie, like the lyrics from her song.
"I jumped in the car and told my fellow band members, can you believe who I collaborated with this week?" shared Colum, who resides in close proximity to Cardiff.
"We had been on the road for almost two hours and were getting close to Birmingham, but they still hadn't figured it out. I just had to reveal it to them! Their reaction was like 'no, that's impossible'. It was such a strange experience."
Billie Piper was alongside David Tennant, the actor who played the tenth Doctor, just before Colum put on his suit.
Colum was pleasantly surprised when he was asked to play the role of a doctor again in the 2008 episode Journey's End. The producers appreciated his work and similarity to the original character so much that they requested him to appear in the final episode of the fourth series as the doctor's clone.
This implied that he was required to feature in the identical scenes as Tennant, Billie Piper, John Barrowman, and Catherine Tate, who was concluding her tenure as a regular cast member.
Colum, who hails from the Republic of Ireland, reminisced about the time when he had the opportunity to pilot the Tardis in the episode "Journey's End."
Everyone was crowded around the Tardis's main console. Each of us needed to have a hand on the device and the flight command. Everyone was involved in that installment, and there was a genuine excitement in the air.
I had the chance to grip the screwdriver, but they insisted on safeguarding it and frequently took it away from me.
Colum was part of a touching moment when Piper's character, Rose Tyler, had to bid farewell to the doctor.
It was an incredible and dreamlike encounter.

Catherine Tate and David Tennant are coming back to celebrate the 60th anniversary, but Colum plans to watch the special event from the comfort of his couch.
The best part of my experience was being able to work closely with David Tennant. I absolutely enjoyed it. He was incredibly friendly and professional. It was definitely my favorite aspect of the entire hectic period.
This upcoming weekend, David Tennant and Catherine Tate will reunite to portray the roles of The Doctor and Donna Noble in the Doctor Who episode titled "The Star Beast". The program will air on BBC One on Saturday evening. However, Colum will choose to enjoy this program from the comfort of his own home with his family.
Colum is a married man to Kerry. He is a musician who plays the guitar and sings for a band called Goose. In addition to being a musician, he also teaches creative writing to students and has written several books such as The Fly Guy, The Tall Owl and Other Stories. Due to his busy schedule, Colum cannot take on extra work at the moment. Recently, he even played the role of a doctor in a movie and had his own trailer.
Colum expressed his excitement for the upcoming performance on Saturday, as some brilliant actors are making a comeback.
Being a supporter, having the opportunity to work on the program was amazing and it has only deepened my affection for Doctor Who.
