The General Election brought about a shift in the country, but residents in Hackney saw no changes this morning as Labour candidates Diane Abbott and Meg Hillier were re-elected.

The borough's tally happened at the Service Center located right next to the Town Hall on Mare Street, and the outcomes were received in the wee hours of the morning.

Hillier was the initial person to learn about her win in the Hackney South and Shoreditch seat that she has represented since 2005.

The victory was easy, with Hillier winning by a margin of 14,737 votes.

Altogether, the Labour candidate received 24,724 votes, while the Green Party's Laura-Louise Fairley came in second with nearly 10,000 votes.

During her speech, Hillier expressed her excitement about the potential to make positive changes for the residents of Hackney South and Shoreditch. She emphasized the importance of having a government, council, and Mayor all aligned with the values of the Labour party.

She stated that the upcoming administration will work to shorten the waiting times in the NHS, address the housing shortage in Hackney, and take action to reduce poverty in an area where half of the children live in poverty.

Diane Abbott's victory in the Hackney North and Stoke Newington constituency was declared not long after.

Abbott easily won the election, receiving 24,355 votes to remain as the representative for the constituency she has served since 1987.

She got a similar large number of votes just like the person representing Hackney South, with Antoinette Fernandez from the Green Party coming in second with a total of 9,275 votes.

After the results were declared, Abbott strongly criticized blaming migrants, stating: "I entered Parliament to help people who are not supported, to raise awareness about issues that others are overlooking, and to be a spokesperson for those who are unheard."

I will always speak out against anyone who tries to pin the problems of society on migrants, regardless of their political party or identity.

We are here witnessing a momentous Labour triumph in the morning. The upcoming Labour administration has the chance to make real and significant changes.

Abbott will hold the title of mother of the House in the upcoming parliament, which is awarded to the female MP who has served the longest.

Even though Labour had strong support, both Abbott and Hillier saw a decrease in their percentage of votes from the last General Election.

In the area of Hackney North represented by Abbott, the Labour party has decreased by 10.3 percent, while the Green party has seen a significant increase of 14.6 percent.

In Hackney South, the percentage of votes for Labour decreased by 14.1%, while the Greens saw a huge increase of 17.5%.

The outcome shows that the Greens have become the second largest party in Hackney for the first time in terms of the vote share for parliamentary elections. This accomplishment mirrors their longstanding success in the borough's local elections.
