As the closing credits played, the mystery was unraveled, Beardsmore was no longer in the picture, and her personal life had improved significantly.

"You know how when working on a jigsaw puzzle, starting with the edges makes it simpler? I think she has all the edge pieces in place, but the center is still chaotic," said creator and writer Maya Sondhi, reflecting on Ray's emotional condition at the start of season 2.

"As time goes on and she interacts with various people in her life, her mother plays a significant role in this process. Additionally, her connection with Patrick Baladi’s character, DI Patrick Holden, and Gemma Whelan’s character, DCI Kerry Henderson, also contribute to her development. I wouldn’t say she has everything figured out by the end; rather, it’s more like she’s slowly assembling a massive 1,000-piece puzzle. She’s making progress, though."
