The estate is of great emotional significance to Mr. Jeter. He was born in Pequannock Township, N.J. and grew up in Michigan. The house belonged to the Tiedemann family, who had previously adopted his grandfather, William "Sonny" Connors. As per Ian O'Connor's book, "The Captain: The Journey of Derek Jeter," the future captain of the Yankees used to spend summers there. Although he was not interested in swimming, he enjoyed playing catch with someone.
