One year after breaking up with Patrick, Denise got married to music manager Steve Finan O'Connor, the son of the famous gameshow host, Tom O'Connor.

Steve has worked with some of the most well-known artists in the music business such as Madness, the girl group All Saints, and former member of One Direction, Liam Payne. Since then, he and his partner have had three sons together named Ryan, Kane, and Troy.

Even though Denise and Steve didn't get married until 2006, they first met each other in 2000, even though Denise was in a relationship with Patrick back then. Looking back on their second encounter, Denise told the Mirror in 2006: "I was still with Patrick when I first saw Steve, but then we crossed paths again later on and it was like falling in love all over again."

Denise is a happy mother of four kids. She had her daughter Lauryn, who is 22 years old, with her ex Patrick Stevens. She also has three sons named Ryan, who is 18, Kane, who is 16, and Troy, who is five years old.

The ex-Olympic athlete chooses to keep her kids' lives private, but when her daughter Lauryn was born, it caused issues with her coach. She felt unsupported by her coaching team, describing herself as merely a machine without any emotion.

Charles van Commene trained Denise to win the Olympics, but he stopped coaching her in 2002 because he believed that being a mother and a top athlete could not go together.

In 2020, Denise spoke to Chelsea Magazines about her son Troy. She mentioned that the first year felt like it dragged on, but with Troy, time has flown by. Denise questioned whether this was due to her being more experienced and handling things better, or if Troy is just an exceptional baby.

The celebrity also informed the magazine that their son Ryan has taken on the role of a "second father" to young Troy, regularly spending quality time with him.

Even though Denise keeps her children away from public attention, she did mention that they might pursue careers in sports like she did, as many of them show a keen interest in it.

"My daughter is really interested in staying healthy and fit. She enjoys playing netball, but she also likes going to the gym by herself and trying out all the different machines," she said. "On the other hand, my sons enjoy the social aspect of physical activity and prefer playing team sports."
