Who is Dean McCullough? Meet the Radio 1 DJ and I'm A Celeb campmate
As a somewhat lesser-known celebrity, fans of the show might be curious about a few things: how did McCullough rise to fame, what’s his background, and what did he say just before heading into the jungle?
Where Is Dean McCullough's Hometown?
Dean McCullough hails from Newtownabbey, located in the southeastern part of County Antrim in Northern Ireland.
The Rise To Fame Of Dean McCullough
McCullough began his journey in broadcasting by volunteering at Wandsworth Radio.
Next came his initial official presenting role, partnering with Emma Goswell at Gaydio. They talked about modern LGBTQ+ issues during their program. The duo continued to host the Gaydio breakfast show together until 2021.
McCullough had his major opportunity when he stepped in for Clara Amfo on BBC Radio 1 for a couple of days in December 2020. He returned in March 2021 to host the early Friday breakfast show for five additional weeks.
In September 2021, he began hosting the late morning show on Radio 1, succeeding Jordan North. Then, in 2022, he teamed up with Vicky Hawkesworth to share the early afternoon slot, filling in for Scott Mills and Chris Stark.
McCullough first appeared on television in 2015 alongside Thomas King in the show "Young Free and Single: Live." This program aired on E4 and lasted for just one season.
The 32-year-old has regularly featured on Big Brother: Late & Live since 2023.
Dean McCullough's Take On Joining I'm A Celeb
When discussing his fears, McCullough shared, “I’m scared of just about everything – snakes, green flies, hanging over a cliff – it’s all unbearable. And don’t let Ant and Dec know, but I really dislike being in small, cramped places too!”
When it comes to his strengths and weaknesses, he mentioned, “I hope to contribute a lot of positive energy. On the downside, I have a tendency to wake up during the night.”
While in the jungle, he hopes to be “a supportive friend to lean on and to add some good energy to the atmosphere. I’m also more than willing to take on the role of camp cleaner each day.”
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! is broadcast on weekdays and Sundays at 9 PM on ITV.
