The Davis Cup journey of Great Britain has ended with a loss of 2-0, after Novak Djokovic won against British No.1 Cam Norrie with a score of 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 42 minutes.
Starting his opening service game with a brilliant hold, the world's top-ranked player set the pace for an exceptional match that showcased his skills elegantly. This victory marked his historic seventh Nitto ATP Finals title in just a week.
Djokovic was leading by one point and played with ease and passion from the baseline. He hit a powerful forehand winner at 4-2, giving him the opportunity to secure a second point. Norrie faced strong pressure but managed to defend himself skilfully, saving four possible breaks. He ultimately succeeded in holding onto the point with a well-hit forehand along the line.
After securing the first set, the legendary tennis player with 24 Grand Slam titles started the second set off strong – winning his first service game and taking complete dominance over the match by breaking Norrie without losing a single point and then holding his own serve.
Even though the British team's chances of making it to the semi-finals were diminishing, a group of 5,000 enthusiastic British supporters persisted in cheering for the world's eighteenth-ranked player. During a critical game at 3-2, the player fended off five break points, keeping himself close enough to Djokovic to remain competitive.
Even though Norrie fought bravely, the top-ranked player in the world showed his dominance again and won convincingly with an excellent performance. He ended the match with a powerful serve, eliminating Great Britain from the Davis Cup and securing Serbia a spot in the semi-finals.
Serbia is currently in the lead by a score of 1 to 0. This is because Kecmanovic was able to defeat Draper.
Serbia has taken the lead in the quarter-final match against Great Britain, courtesy of Miomir Kecmanovic's victory. Jack Draper put up a good fight but couldn't edge past Kecmanovic, eventually losing 7-6(2), 7-6(6).
The two players were eager to have an effect on their serve right from the start. They engaged in intense rallies from the baseline during the first set, making it a highly competitive match. As the score stood at 4-3, the British player found himself in a tight spot when he fell behind 15-40. Draper came through with some incredible serves when it counted, saving four break points, including two crucial ones in the set, and sending the opener into a tie-break.
Despite playing well earlier, the fourth-seeded British player had a decline in their performance during the tie-break. They made two double faults, allowing Serbia to win the first set.
The second round followed a similar pattern to the first, with the Serbian and British players competing fiercely to take control of the game. As they approached another tie-breaker round, it seemed that Draper might even out the score if he managed to win a mini-break. However, Kecmanovic showed great determination and was able to turn the game around. Even when Draper made a fantastic volley and saved his first match point, Kecmanovic didn't falter and aced his second attempt with a superb serve that was impossible to return.
Coming up next, Cam Norrie, the top-ranked British player, will compete against Novak Djokovic, who currently holds the title of world number one. This match will determine whether the British team has a chance to make it to the semi-finals or not.
