Davina McCall recovering in hospital after brain surgery

Davina McCall is currently in the hospital recuperating following her surgery to remove an uncommon brain tumor.

The 57-year-old television host shared in a video on Instagram on Friday that a benign brain tumor, referred to as a colloid cyst, was discovered after she received a health examination linked to her efforts in raising awareness about menopause.

She mentioned that the likelihood of having it was "three in a million" and that she would be undergoing surgery to take it out.

On Friday night, her partner, Michael Douglas, took to Instagram to provide an update on her health.

"Davina has come out of surgery, and the surgeon mentioned that everything went perfectly according to plan," he wrote.

"She's presently in the intensive care unit for monitoring, and understandably, she's completely worn out."

"We really appreciate all the support we've received from everyone here. It means a lot to us, and we are truly thankful."

McCall shared news of her diagnosis in a video earlier on Friday.

She explained, "I'm sharing this now. It will be Friday morning, and I'm doing it because a few months back, I gave a talk about menopause for a company. In exchange for my presentation, they offered me a health scan. I thought I would be in perfect health, but it turned out that I have a benign brain tumor known as a colloid cyst, which is quite uncommon—only three cases per million."

"I kind of ignored the situation for a bit, but then I consulted several neurosurgeons. I gathered a range of perspectives and ultimately understood that I needed to have it removed."

McCall referred to it as a large tumor, measuring 14mm across, and stated, “It has to be removed, as it could cause problems if it expands.”

She mentioned that she would undergo a craniotomy, which is a surgery that involves temporarily taking off a section of the skull. She also stated that she was feeling positive.

"I'll be in the hospital for around nine days, and after that, I'll head home. However, I'll need to take a break from my phone for a bit," McCall shared.

“Please don’t stress over my situation; I’m already handling that myself. I’m feeling positive and have complete trust in my surgeon and his team. I’m letting them take charge because I believe in their expertise.”

The NHS reports that benign brain tumors are more frequently found in individuals over 50 years old. Common symptoms associated with these tumors can include headaches, fainting spells, changes in behavior, and even lapses in consciousness.

Douglas mentioned that the host would be "taking a break from everything" for a while to focus on her recovery.

He mentioned, "She’s doing really well and is being well taken care of. I’ll post occasional updates from her account for those who want to keep up."

"I'm confident she will check out all the messages when she gets a chance, so don't hesitate to share your kindness. The encouragement from others can be incredibly uplifting. Wishing everyone a wonderful day! Michael xxx."

The previous host of Big Brother, who currently leads the ITV dating series My Mum, Your Dad, has been a strong supporter of women's health topics. She has also created documentaries focusing on contraception and menopause.

Last year, she received an MBE as part of the king's birthday honors for her contributions to broadcasting.

Her sister, Caroline Baday, passed away from lung cancer in 2012 when she was 50 years old.
