Hollywood director David Lynch reveals lung disease but ‘will never retire’
David Lynch shared that he has recently discovered he has emphysema, a long-term lung condition, due to his habit of smoking for many years.
The famous movie maker from Hollywood, responsible for the successful mystery show Twin Peaks, mentioned that even though he has been diagnosed with an illness, he is feeling very healthy and has no plans to stop working.
During a discussion with the UK film magazine Sight and Sound, the 78-year-old mentioned that his mobility is impacted by the condition. This means that he will only be able to oversee film direction from a distance in the future.
Lynch recently shared on X, previously known as Twitter, that his illness is a consequence of his past smoking habit. However, he disclosed that he has successfully kicked the habit two years ago.
"I must admit that I really liked smoking," he stated, "but there are consequences for indulging in this pleasure."
Emphysema is a health issue that makes it hard to breathe and leads to a constant cough.
Even though he is dealing with the issue, he says he is full of joy and has expressed gratitude to his fans for their support.
Lynch has helmed 10 full-length movies, such as the Academy Award-nominated Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, and The Elephant Man.
His most recent film project was a revamp of the third season of Twin Peaks titled Twin Peaks: the Return, which debuted in the United States in 2017.
