'A Load Of B*****ks': Critics Aren't Exactly In Love With Rylan Clark's New Naked Dating Show

Dating Naked

It was bound to happen sooner or later, right?

Following various dating shows where contestants choose each other while wearing intricate animal masks, judging a date solely based on their singing abilities, and even getting engaged without meeting face-to-face, it was inevitable that someone would come up with the idea of a nude Love Island.

Paramount+ stepped up to the plate as the pioneer with the initial two episodes of the show called Dating Naked, which can now be streamed.

Hosted by Rylan Clark, the program follows a bunch of individuals who live in a summer paradise similar to Love Island, and they are searching for love while completely nude throughout their time there.

Until now, Dating Naked has received negative reviews from many critics, with low ratings and unflattering terms like "boring", "attention-seeking", and "ordinary" being used in various sources.

Here are some of the opinions from critics (including a few positive reviews as well)...

The only slightly interesting aspect of Dating Naked is that Rylan Clark is the host, dressed in contrast to the naked contestants, joking about feeling overdressed. However, the show is mostly contrived reality TV drama with rapidly changing relationships that are as fleeting as a discarded cardigan. It's all a bunch of nonsense.

"There are no positive aspects to this show, not even the host Rylan, whose constant smile appears to be fixed to his face as he recites the same phrases without any emotion. I suggest saving yourself the trouble; even though there are no undergarments shown, this show is still terrible."

Instead of rejuvenating the tired reality TV genre, nudity actually makes the whole thing seem ordinary and boring. It's not really surprising, it's just kind of boring and seeking attention. It's also not attractive - it's too focused on the physical aspect. It's difficult to have any sort of appeal when everything is on display. If simplicity is better, then this is definitely too excessive.

Dating Naked UK is not just bad because the participants are unclothed. It is bad in general, and the fact that everyone is naked doesn't make it any better. After the initial excitement wears off, it becomes clear that the show is unoriginal and lacks any redeeming qualities.

The shocking reality is that after about ten minutes of watching the first episode, seeing nudity on screen no longer feels surprising or impactful. In all honesty, by the end of the second episode, I had even stopped reminding myself to remember to buy pigs in blankets for Christmas.

Dating Naked is absolutely crazy but so entertaining. It's difficult to imagine what crazy idea reality TV will come up with next to surprise us.

Reality TV shows are most successful when they amplify real-life situations. If I wanted to see regular people going on dates, I could just go to a local bar any night. That's why shows like Dating Naked are crucial in the world of reality TV.

I watched two of the first episodes of the Paramount+ series, and it's amazing how being naked changes the tone of the discussions.

The initial two episodes of the show Dating Naked can be streamed on Paramount+ starting now.
