Grand Slam of Darts 2024: Luke Littler crowned champion in sensationally-quick fashion after 16-3 victory over Martin Lukeman
Luke Littler triumphed with a remarkable 16-3 win against Martin Lukeman, securing the title of Grand Slam of Darts champion.
Lukeman secured victories in the initial two matches on Sunday night in Wolverhampton. However, Littler made an impressive comeback by winning 15 consecutive legs, ultimately taking the win and earning his first major TV ranking title during his first full year in the PDC circuit.
This achievement brought him £150,000 in winnings and propelled the 17-year-old to the fifth spot in the PDC Order of Merit. He is now considered the frontrunner for the World Darts Championship, which is set to begin next month.
After trailing 2-0, Littler made a strong comeback with two breaks of his opponent's throw, executing an impressive 124 checkout and finishing with an 11-dart leg. This allowed him to take a 3-2 lead while maintaining an average of over 110 in the first session.

The 17-year-old player was on fire, winning eight consecutive legs to take a commanding 8-2 lead, while hitting 180s with ease. Lukeman was completely shut out and found himself in a tough position, needing to step up his game to have any chance of turning things around.
As the phrase "there's only one Luke Littler" echoed throughout Wolverhampton, Littler scored a 100 on the D10 board and then secured a win on D12, taking a 10-2 lead. He then landed a double top, putting him just five legs away from a swift victory.
As Littler kept landing impressive throws and hitting treble after treble, he was just one leg shy of winning after securing 15 consecutive legs. Although he managed to hit a single 12, leaving him with a score of 170, he was unable to finish it off. Lukeman seized the opportunity to break Littler's streak, making the score 15-3. The crowd rallied behind him as he celebrated in a somewhat ironic fashion.

It was just one round later when Littler secured victory over D6, wrapping up an incredible season by claiming the Eric Bristow Trophy.
Littler achieved an impressive total of 60 scores of 180 throughout the tournament, setting a new Grand Slam record. This victory marks his tenth tournament win in his debut year as a professional—a feat previously accomplished only by legends Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen, and Peter Wright.

"I was really pleased with how I did. The highlight for me was when the confetti fell. That's the moment we all strive for," Littler shared with Sky Sports.
The World Championship transformed me and my skills. As the months have passed, I’ve been adjusting to everything. It seems I’ll need to continue adapting for quite a while.
"This is one of the wins I was really hoping for. My overall record isn't perfect, but it's fine at this point. I aimed to make it far in this competition, and now that I've achieved that, it feels even more rewarding. It proves I’m still in the game."
"What will I do to celebrate? I'll head back home and spend some time playing on my Xbox..."
"I realized that if I manage to win the tournament and get hold of the trophy—although that's still a long way off—I could find myself ranked fifth in the world... fifth in just ten months," Littler mentioned.
"There are still two more ranking tournaments left, so I’m hoping to improve my position beyond fifth place."

"Oh, he's something else altogether," Lukeman remarked.
That's why I was really hoping Luke would step out. I thought, with Gary Anderson there, maybe I’d have a small chance, but he's really amazing, isn’t he?
"He has made significant contributions to the PDC and the sport as a whole, attracting new fans and sponsorships. The highlight was his inclusion in this year's Premier League; it was the best decision they could have made."
I wish him and his family all the best. They seem like wonderful kids. Keep enjoying your FIFA games, my friend!
"I promise I'll get in touch with you soon!"
