Darren Till promised to "destroy" Tommy Fury during their press conference in London, where the two British fighters had to be pulled apart by security.
Fury is set to step back into the boxing ring in his hometown of Manchester on January 18, where he will face off against ex-UFC fighter Till at the Co-op Live venue.
After a polite beginning to the press conference, tensions escalated rapidly when Till warned that he would kick Fury—who is the half-brother of former heavyweight champion Tyson—during their upcoming fight. This confrontation escalated further when Till’s father, John Fury, threw a drink at him, prompting security to intervene.
Till, a 31-year-old from Liverpool, expressed, "For two years, nobody was willing to face me in the ring. My manager suggested that I take on Tommy, and I agreed without hesitation. I don’t even know how many tickets I've sold or what my pay will be; my focus is solely on defeating Tommy."
"I haven't really come across him much; I'm aware that he's competed against a few professional fighters, but I haven't had the chance to watch him in action."
"I plan to completely dominate him, really put him in his place, and take control of the situation. He’s aware of that."
"I'm not worried about anyone here. As an MMA fighter, I know that if I wanted to, I could easily strike you with a kick or elbow – and there wouldn't be any consequences."
"In the end, if I'm not able to win against you, I might as well strike you right in the face—how does that sound? I'm going to land a solid kick directly on your face, and you'll be caught off guard. If I'm in a match and things aren't going my way, I'm definitely going to aim for a kick to the face."
"You lack substance."
Fury, who has never lost in his 10 professional matches and last fought in October 2023, securing a majority decision victory against YouTube star KSI, engaged in a heated exchange with Till. Their back-and-forth escalated quickly.
Fury responded, "Darren, you need to step up and face the challenge head-on, my friend."
"Every person I’ve trained with, from Olympic athletes to those who have turned professional, brings a unique experience."
"That's not going to happen, Darren. We’re not in a cage anymore; we’re in a boxing ring. You're about to see that boxing is a whole different game from MMA."
Till achieved a technical knockout victory against Mohammad Mutie in his boxing debut in July, after compiling a record of 18 wins and 5 losses in his MMA career.
