Dubois shines in last-gasp stoppage against Miller

Daniel Dubois

Dubois, on the left, has triumphed in 20 professional matches with only two defeats, while Miller has just experienced his initial loss in 28 professional rounds.

A motivated Daniel Dubois rekindled his professional journey by defeating Jarrell Miller in a nail-biting heavyweight match held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia with a final knockdown just seconds before the end of the fight.

As the bout appeared to be headed towards the final bell, Dubois, a British boxer, delivered a sequence of punches consisting of both right and left hooks, which caused Miller to lose balance and stumble back towards his corner.

Miller, who came back from a ban for doping that lasted two years last year, was exhausted and unable to keep up while Dubois attacked him. The referee intervened and prevented the American from sustaining any further injuries.

Dubois, at the age of 26, managed to get back on the winning track after his loss against Oleksandr Usyk in August when he was fighting for the world title.

"It was a crucial moment tonight. I had to search within myself. But I persevered and demonstrated my determination," he shared with Dazn after the fight.

With my father cheering me on, I felt motivated to put in the effort. I needed to convince myself that I possessed true fighting abilities and was worthy of becoming a champion. And that is exactly what I accomplished tonight by overcoming any uncertainties.

Dubois Excels In Best Career Victory

This highly anticipated fight between two powerful fighters could have been the main attraction and filled up an arena in the UK. However, when Miller and Dubois entered the ring, there were many unoccupied seats in the 6,000 person venue. Despite this, they were not the main event fighters.

Miller, a pugilist who tends to embrace the role of the antagonist in the boxing realm, received a warm reception from the Saudi spectators. His fellow countryman and light-welterweight global champion, Devin Haney, was cheerfully watching from the sidelines.

The audience mocked Dubois, yet the person from London began with vigor by delivering a quick punch and two forceful blows to the body in under 20 seconds.

Miller weighed an astonishing 335 pounds during the weigh-in, making him an easy target for Dubois to constantly hit his body.

In the second round of the match, Brooklyn's fighter Miller kept pushing his opponent backwards until he landed three strong punches. His confidence grew and he started using his jab more frequently, doubling and even tripling it up. Every punch that Miller threw had a lot of power behind it.

The battle was fast turning into a gunfight. The two men were exchanging blows. Dubois was throwing more punches, while Miller's punches were more damaging.

However, Dubois quickly regained his composure, maneuvering around the ring with greater ease and delivering more precise punches.

Miller was gasping for air when Dubois suddenly landed a powerful punch that stopped him dead in his tracks during the seventh round. Dubois proceeded to hit Miller with a flurry of punches to both his head and body.

Miller was shaken in the eighth round and started to visibly exhaust even more in the ninth.

Dubois made the most of the situation and ended the competition with an impressive display. He evaded Miller's easily predictable punches and responded with rapid movements and visually striking hits.

Miller displayed resistance by puffing out his chest, nevertheless Dubois landed seven unreciprocated punches which obligated the referee to intervene.

Miller took to his Instagram account a few hours prior to the fight to express his frustration about the British referee and judges.

Ultimately, the judges' nationality didn't matter.

"Bring On The Top Fighters: My Ultimate Goal"

Dubois received praise for his performance against Usyk, in which he knocked down the champion with a shot that some deemed a low blow. However, despite his efforts, Dubois did not emerge victorious in that fight.

Instead of opting for an easy comeback fight to regain his confidence, he made the brave decision to accept the challenge of facing the formidable and relatively unknown Miller.

Dubois faced a difficult situation, as people were doubting his skills as a fighter and promoter. However, he overcame this obstacle and gave what may be seen as his greatest performance yet.

During fight week, the reserved and occasionally uneasy heavyweight fighter also spoke up, responding to the boastful Miller's taunts.

"I aspire to battle against the finest fighters out there. The self-belief that was absent previously, I have acquired it tonight," he expressed.

Before the fight, Miller insulted his rival by calling him a coward due to previous losses against Joe Joyce and Usyk. But after the match, he changed his tune and stated that Dubois is not a coward.

There are individuals who may consider Dubois' triumph as a success for the honesty and principles of the activity.

Miller was not successful in the drug tests that were conducted just ahead of his planned bid for the world title against Anthony Joshua in June 2019. Furthermore, Miller was subsequently found to have tested positive once more for a performance enhancing drug in 2020, and as a result of this, he has been banned from participating in the sport for a duration of two years.

Although Miller has had a history of missteps, his polarizing and straightforward personality still catches people's interest. Given the significant financial investment made by the Saudi organizers in the heavyweight category, it is improbable that Miller will be forgotten any time soon.

British Underdogs, Arthur And Zorro, Experience Defeats

On the Day of Reckoning card, which featured Anthony Joshua v Otto Wallin and Deontay Wilder v Joseph Parker as co-headliners, two British fighters experienced heartbreak on the undercard.

The attempt of Lyndon Arthur, who competes in the light-heavyweight category, to take the WBA world champion title away from Dmitry Bivol resulted in a loss by a decision made on points.

Arthur from Manchester lacked determination and fierceness, resulting in his defeat as he was knocked down by a body shot in the 11th round. Bivol won the match with a unanimous score of 120-107 from all three judges.

Jai Opetaia, the champion of Cruiserweight Ring Magazine, defeated Ellis Zorro in the first round with an impressive knockout punch that will surely be talked about for a while.

Opetaia, a boxer known for his powerful punches, gave up his IBF world title to participate in a high-paying match in Saudi Arabia. During the match, he threw out a massive left hook and landed it on Bromley's fighter, Zorro. Medical personnel provided oxygen to Zorro, who was able to stand up after five minutes.
