The British actor has won the Oscar three times, earning the title of best actor for his roles in My Left Foot, There Will Be Blood, and Lincoln. He is often considered one of the finest actors of his era.

He declared that he was stepping away from acting following his role in Paul Thomas Anderson's 2017 film Phantom Thread, which revolves around the fashion scene in 1950s London. His performance earned him an Academy Award nomination as well.

The 67-year-old has mostly stayed out of the public eye lately, but made an unexpected appearance at the National Board of Review Awards in January, where she presented an award to American director Martin Scorsese.

He was also present at a screening of his wife Rebecca Miller's movie, She Came To Me, in New York in 2023.

Sir Daniel is now featured in Anemone, a film directed by his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, as reported by the American independent production company Focus Features.

The father and son team crafted the script, which delves into the connections among fathers, sons, and brothers, as well as the intricacies of family relationships.

Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley, and Safia Oakley-Green are also set to appear in the movie, which will be produced by Focus Features and Plan B.

"We are thrilled to team up with the talented visual artist Ronan Day-Lewis for his debut feature film, working alongside Daniel Day-Lewis as his creative partner," said Peter Kujawski, chairman of Focus Features, in a statement.

"They've crafted an outstanding screenplay, and we can't wait to collaborate with the Plan B team to share their vision with audiences."

Sir Daniel made his on-screen debut as a teenager in the film Sunday Bloody Sunday in 1971, and he later took on various notable roles in period dramas.

He is recognized for his role as Hawkeye in Michael Mann's 1992 film, The Last Of The Mohicans. Additionally, he received Academy Award nominations for his performances in Gangs Of New York and In The Name Of The Father.

In 2014, Prince William honored the actor with a knighthood in recognition of his contributions to theater.

In June 2017, his retirement from acting was publicly revealed through a statement from his representative, Leslee Dart, who announced that "Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be pursuing an acting career."

He is deeply appreciative of all his teammates and audiences throughout the years.

"This is a personal choice, and neither he nor his team will provide any additional remarks on the matter."

Sir Daniel has not yet made any public statements regarding his new position.
