People are always sharing their opinions on who should take over the role of the next James Bond—everyone, that is, except for Daniel Craig.
In a recent chat with Variety, the 56-year-old English actor shared his thoughts on potential candidates for the next James Bond. Interestingly, he seems to have no strong feelings about it. When asked who he would like to see take on the iconic role, along with his Queer co-star Drew Starkey, Craig replied with a laugh, "I don't care."
The interviewer asked the pair if they could recall how many James Bond films Craig has appeared in over the years. Craig responded with surprise, saying, “Are you really asking me that? Do I need to write it down? I'm probably going to get it wrong.” Starkey also struggled to provide a specific number but humorously acknowledged, “It’s too many.”
The Knives Out actor officially took on the role of 007 in 2006 and eventually exited the spy series in 2021 after appearing in five films. After the release of No Time to Die, the final movie in the franchise, Craig felt completely prepared to move on from his character and had no regrets about ending the life of the MI6 secret agent.
“I’ve been really lucky to spend 17 years creating this,” Craig shared on BBC Radio 4’s Best of Today podcast. “I genuinely want to dedicate the next 20 years to unraveling it all and finding a way to understand it, because it was an amazing experience. I concluded it the way I envisioned, and I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to do that with the final film.”
When it comes to finding Craig's replacement, speculation started in March about Aaron Taylor-Johnson (from The Fall Guy) being the frontrunner. Reports suggest that the Bullet Train star has reportedly been offered a role in the upcoming film, known as Bond 26, which is expected to start filming this summer. However, there’s been no official confirmation yet.
After leaving, Craig became a part of director Rian Johnson's highly successful Knives Out series, making him the sole actor to return for all three films. The upcoming installment, called Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, will feature Craig alongside his Spectre co-star Andrew Scott. Other big names joining the cast are Josh Brolin, Jeremy Renner, Glenn Close, Kerry Washington, Josh O’Connor, and Cailee Spaeny. This movie is set to release in 2025 and will be available for streaming on Netflix.
