Daniel Craig has hilariously shot down rumors regarding who might take over the role of James Bond.

At 56 years old, he has held the role of the main character in the film series longer than anyone else. The franchise is based on the books written by Ian Fleming, which first came out in 1953. The first movie adaptation hit theaters in 1962, featuring Sean Connery as the original lead in Dr. No.

Craig appeared in five movies, beginning with Casino Royale in 2006. He reprised his role as the iconic spy in Quantum of Solace in 2008, followed by Skyfall in 2012, Spectre in 2015, and eventually declared that he would be stepping away from the role after No Time To Die in 2021.

Since that time, several actors have been speculated as potential replacements for him in the legendary role, such as Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, and the rumored frontrunner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

In an interview with Variety, Craig was asked, "If you could hand off the role of James Bond to someone else, who would you like to see take it on?"

He replied, "It doesn't matter to me."

In January 2023, there were initial speculations about Taylor-Johnson, 33, being cast in the role after it was revealed that producer Barbara Broccoli was quite impressed by his screen audition. Taylor-Johnson is known for his work in films like Kick-Ass, Bullet Train, and Nowhere Boy.

Former Bond actors like James Pryce, Pierce Brosnan, and George Lazenby have expressed their backing for the Nowhere Boy star, believing he might be the perfect choice for the role.

The actor is currently advertising his latest film, Queer, directed by Luca Guadagnino, who is also known for his work on Challengers and Call Me By Your Name.

The film, which debuted at the Venice International Film Festival, has been said by critics to include some of the "most graphic gay sex scenes ever."

Craig, who has shot intimate scenes with Sienna Miller, Lea Seydoux, Monica Bellucci, Eva Green, and his actual wife Rachel Weisz, mentions that he has also starred in films featuring awful romantic scenes. He believes that they just don’t come off well.

It's essential to have a director who is attuned to the nuances of the project, someone who truly grasps how to bring authenticity to the work. Their primary role on set is to ensure everything feels as genuine as it can be.
