Dancing On Ice 2023: Fans torn over Ekin-Su's skate off

16 Jan 2023

Dancing On Ice 2023 returned to screens on Sunday night and the 15th series kicked off with a bang. Six celebrities took to the ice for the first time with the remaining five set to perform this Sunday.

It was gymnast Nile Wilson and his skating partner Olivia Smart who impressed the most topping the leaderboard with an impressive 29.5. However it was Liberty X singer Michelle Heaton and her partner Łukasz Różycki who were propping up the leaderboard with a score of 19.

Despite finishing third from bottom it was Love Island winner Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and her skating partner Brendyn Hatfield who ended up in the skate off following the public vote. The pair skated to Britney Spears' song Toxic scoring 21.5 from the judges.

As hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby announced the result confirming it was Ekin-Su in the skate off the actress looked visibly stunned and annoyed. She will now face one of the remaining five celebrities in the skate off next weekend.

However fans of the show were left divided on social media over the result with some saying it was the right choice whilst others were furious. @oheyitsmolly said: "She deserved better."

Whilst @bellestoev said: "SO UNDESERVED!" @edwards_kirsty added: "Not the right act to face the skate off but that's just my opinion."

@NatCaves also added: "WRONG CHOICE! BOO!!! Ekin should still be there, the heck is wrong with people? There were far worse performances."

On the other hand @SpencerSCarter said: "Right choice IMO. Hard to warm to and everything said is a cliche. I’m sure she’s a lovely person but it doesn’t translate through the screen. Saying that, I couldn’t have even got on the ice so fair play."

@brummie1984 also said: "It was dire this is a family show, there was absolutely no skating, just a lot of cavorting and pouting, then she plays the I've been unwell sympathy card." @Charlie__Tweets also said: "Right choice she did nothing."

@LindaGeorgiou added: "Different crowd than Love Island, we want more skating, less posing." @LORRAIN25481106 also added: "Over-marked. It’s Dancing on Ice, not lying on it pouting! It was so hard to watch, cringey."

Dancing On Ice returns on Sunday when ex footballer John Fashanu, Corrie star Mollie Gallagher, comedian Darren Harriott, actress Carley Stenson and drag queen The Vivienne will take to the ice for the first time. You can watch at 6:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
