Palace held by Forest in landmark game for Hodgson

Crystal Palace

In the match, the Palace team managed to only shoot the ball towards the goal once with accuracy.

Crystal Palace achieved a scoreless draw versus Nottingham Forest during Roy Hodgson's 400th Premier League game as a manager.

During a match where there weren't many opportunities, Morgan Gibbs-White from Forest came very close to scoring when his volley hit the post in the first half.

During the match, Murillo, the defender for the forest center, had an impressive run, but unfortunately, he was stopped by Sam Johnstone. On the other hand, Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta missed their best chance by dragging the shot wide.

The result of the match resulted in Palace securing the ninth spot while Forest settled for the 13th position. They are currently leading by eight and five points over the teams in the relegation zone. However, it's still early in the season.

At the age of 76, Hodgson began his first stint as a manager in the Premier League with Blackburn in 1997. Prior to that, he gained experience coaching a variety of teams such as Inter Milan, Switzerland, Malmo and Bristol City.

During an interview with BBC Match of the Day, he revealed that he managed his first Premier League game at the age of 50. With over two decades of work experience, he feels proud of his accomplishment, especially since it came towards the end of many people's careers. He expressed his happiness and satisfaction with his achievement.

The sole unfortunate aspect is that I don't become any more serene or composed while seated on the bench. I'm unable to sense any reduction in the stress levels, nor does the agony lessen when the opposing team wins three or four corners in the closing minutes of the match.

Regrettably, the 400 matches have not been useful at all for any novice trainers observing this.

Hodgson has become the eighth manager to reach 400 matches in the Premier League. Out of all the managers who have held the position for a long time, Sam Allardyce was the only one to end up losing in the game that marked this milestone.

Prior to the start of the game on Saturday, a moment of applause was held as a tribute to Elianne Andam, a 15-year-old girl who tragically lost her life in a stabbing incident in Croydon towards the end of September.

The supporters of Palace also displayed a sign with the words "May Elianne find peace. Her brilliance remains."

Hodgson Won't Have Birthday Fireworks

Steve Cooper, the manager of Forest, motivated his team before their match to embrace the lively atmosphere usually found at Selhurst Park. As a result, they controlled the game's beginning phase.

Gibbs-White was included in the starting line-up again after being on the bench during the game against Brentford last Sunday. He made a fantastic move by running behind the Palace defense and then scored an impressive goal from a Murillo pass from long range, which looped over Johnstone.

Instead of resting in the net, the ball rebounded off the right post and fell into the goalkeeper's grasp.

Cooper's team kept attacking during the game, but they weren't able to create a lot of opportunities. The first time that Palace finally made contact with the ball inside the Forest's penalty area was when Jordan Ayew took a shot that went over the crossbar in the 33rd minute.

It came as no shock that Palace didn't shine in the first half as they were missing Eberechi Eze, who was injured, and several top players. Hodgson's team has only scored one goal in the league in the first half this season.

In the second half, they made some progress but faced difficulty in breaking through Forest's well-coordinated defensive wall. The goalie, Matt Turner, was only tested twice when he saved a weak header from Mateta and a shot from Ayew.

Even though Forest's captain and right-back Serge Aurier had to leave the game at halftime due to a groin injury, they continued to play strong. Gonzalo Montiel, who replaced Aurier, almost scored a spectacular goal but it was deflected over the crossbar by Palace defender Joachim Andersen.

During the football match, Nicolas Dominguez attempted to score a goal with a curved shot outside the penalty area, but it was deflected by the opposing goalkeeper, Johnstone. The team playing away, Forest, have managed to keep their opponents from scoring in as many games as they did throughout the entirety of the previous season, which is two. Given their strong performance, they appeared to have greater potential for winning the match and securing three points.

Cooper spoke with BBC Match of the Day and shared that he believes their disappointment at only earning a point against Crystal Palace is a sign of the progress they are making.

During the game, we were able to create authentic opportunities to score. We had crafted these chances with care and precision. At the end of the game, we almost managed to win."

Last season, we would have been pleased with a clean slate while playing away from home and we would have gone to great lengths to achieve similar results and performances.
