Glasner wins first game as Palace boss against Burnley

Crystal Palace

Chris Richards managed to score his initial point for Palace and initiated the team's journey towards victory.

Crystal Palace managed to score three goals in the latter half of the match and secured a win against Burnley, who had a player sent off, in the debut game of their manager, Oliver Glasner.

During in the first half, the Eagles had more control of the ball, but they were unable to score before Josh Brownhill was given a straight red card.

James Trafford passed the ball to Brownhill, who was being closely guarded by Jefferson Lerma. Unfortunately, Lerma fouled Brownhill and brought him down when he was in a promising position close to the goal.

The guests managed to finish the first half with an even score and continued to resist for more than 20 minutes during the second half until Palace finally scored.

In the 68th minute, Jordan Ayew executed an impressive curled pass and defender Chris Richards connected with it by leaping forward to score a header into the bottom corner, securing the lead for the home team.

Earlier, Matheus Franca was brought in as a substitute in the second half. He teamed up effectively with Tyrick Mitchell on the left side. Franca then delivered a ground-level cross which Ayew successfully scored from nearby in the 71st minute.

Jean-Philippe Mateta secured a victory for the team by successfully converting a penalty kick after Franca was fouled by Vitinho.

Palace managed to achieve a crucial victory despite Burnley striker David Datro Fofana's late goal being disallowed for an offside.

Palace's victory grants them an eight-point advantage from the relegation area, and it marks Glasner as the second-ever Palace manager to clinch their inaugural Premier League match.

Glasner's Rapid Impact Felt

Glasner is leading a team halfway through the season for the first time. He announced in a press conference before the game that supporters would observe gradual changes.

Nevertheless, this victory will provide them with plenty of optimism regarding their future prospects.

Before facing the Clarets, the Austrian had only undergone three practice sessions. However, it was noticeable that he had implemented minor modifications during that limited period.

The Eagles attempted some strategic short corners, with different players taking charge on each side. Lerma almost scored on one of these occasions.

During their game against Everton on Monday, Palace utilized a defensive lineup consisting of three players. This particular formation has also been favored by Glasner in his past clubs.

According to Glasner, Eberechi Eze is expected to return to the team next week. He is hopeful that Eze will be the initial key player to make a comeback from injury, given that Marc Guehi and Michael Olise are still receiving treatment.

The tactical adjustments made by the 49-year-old to bring Franca and Naouirou Ahamada onto the field ended up being successful, as Franca played a crucial role in assisting the final two goals scored by Palace.

There were a few people who thought Franca, who was signed in the summer for a possible £22 million, deserved more opportunities to play under former manager Roy Hodgson. His short appearance in this game is a promising beginning for him with the new coach.

The Palace team managed to avoid conceding a goal, although they were fortunate as Datro Fofana's goal was disallowed due to offside. Despite this stroke of luck, the coach, Glasner, will still be happy with the performance of his team.

Burnley's Self-inflicted Issues

Following their loss to Palace, Burnley currently finds themselves occupying the 19th spot in the Premier League standings and remain eight points away from avoiding relegation.

The team of Palace was having difficulty making any evident opportunities against the side led by Vincent Kompany. Their best chances during the initial 45 minutes seemingly emerged from the errors of Burnley.

Charlie Taylor's volleyed pass towards his own goalkeeper almost surprised Trafford. However, Burnley's goalkeeper's pass to Brownhill resulted in him facing immense pressure, and subsequently getting a red card.

Burnley faced a difficult challenge when one of their players got sent off, and now they need to come up with an exceptional performance to get out of the bottom of the league table.

In their return to the top tier, they are having a tough time as they have been able to score only 25 goals while conceding as many as 58.
