Mayor opens new cricket nets at Stanley Deason

Cricket

The leader of Brighton & Hove recently went to Stanley Deason Leisure Centre to officially unveil a new cricket area in East Brighton.

The Sussex Cricket Foundation, one of the 6 charities the mayor is backing this year, funded the construction of a new 4-lane indoor net facility at the East Brighton leisure centre as part of its Urban Cricket Plan. This initiative aims to enhance local facilities and support the community.

To go along with the new nets, we partnered with Freedom Leisure to finance advanced LED lighting at the location. This lighting will serve as an important training center for nearby clubs.

The blog also mentions a large donation from Rottingdean Cricket Club, who will be providing training sessions for their youth, male, and female teams at Stanley Deason.

Cricket Has Great Power For Positivity

The Mayor, Councillor Mohammed Asaduzzaman, was very happy to cut the ribbon and officially open the nets. He was accompanied by people from Stanley Deason Leisure Centre, the Sussex Cricket Foundation, Rottingdean Cricket Club, and some of our dedicated employees.

The Mayor expressed that the Sussex Cricket Foundation is doing great work in the city. They decided to support this charity during their time as mayor because of the important impact it has on the community.

I had a great time visiting Stanley Deason Leisure Centre and checking out the new indoor nets. It was fascinating to learn about the partnership between the council, the charity, Freedom Leisure, and Rottingdean Cricket Club that made this project happen.

Cricket, just like any sport, has the ability to create positive impacts. It encourages people to be physically active, leading to better health and well-being, while also fostering unity within communities and promoting important values.

I am excited to see how much the new nets are used in the following months.

New Facility For The Community

Gary Wallis-Tayler, who oversees community initiatives for the Sussex Cricket Foundation, stated that the new facility offers a space for the community to practice or play sports during the colder months. It also serves as a location for the Foundation to run programs aimed at benefiting the community.

Tim Devitt, who is the leader of Rottingdean Cricket Club, stated: "This important improvement matches exactly with our goal to nurture cricketing skills and help the sport expand in our area."
