On December 31st, Conor McGregor used social media to announce that he will compete against Michael Chandler in a match under the middleweight category on June 29th.
Back in February, there was an announcement that McGregor and Chandler were slated to fight in 2023. This would be McGregor's first fight after getting injured in July of last year. But, as of now, this fight has yet to happen. McGregor even hinted at the possibility of fighting someone else during his UFC comeback.
Last Sunday (December 31st), the ex-champion seemed to verify that he'll be fighting Chandler in his upcoming bout, mentioning that they'll be battling it out in Las Vegas and at middleweight. However, the UFC has yet to officially announce the fight.
"Hello everyone, I wish you all a wonderful new year," expressed 35-year-old McGregor in a video on X platform. "I am pleased to declare the schedule for my comeback as the well-known 'Notorious' Conor McGregor."
The ultimate comeback is set to happen in Las Vegas during the International Fight Week, which is on the 29th of June. The contender is Michael Chandler, and he will weigh in at 185lbs. It is expected to be an exciting event for the audience to witness.
Before, McGregor was the holder of the UFC featherweight and lightweight championships at the same time, making him the first two-weight champ in the history of the promotion. Chandler from America, on the other hand, used to be a three-time Bellator lightweight champion.
During McGregor's previous match in July 2021, he endured a leg injury caused by Dustin Poirier. This happened six months after Poirier had already knocked him out. Chandler, who is 37 years old, also competed against Poirier in his latest fight, but lost due to a submission in November 2022.
