Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley will be evaluated before Liverpool’s match against Manchester City on Sunday, following injuries sustained in the 2-0 victory over Real Madrid.
Konate and Bradley performed brilliantly on defense against the European champions, with the Northern Ireland international coming out on top in his matchup against Kylian Mbappe. Unfortunately, their injuries were the only downside to what was otherwise a fantastic evening for Arne Slot's team at Anfield.
Liverpool continued their flawless performance in the European season, securing their fifth victory in five matches by overcoming reigning champions Real Madrid for the first time since 2009.
It's a crucial week for Slot's team, and on Sunday, they'll face off against a struggling Manchester City at Anfield. If they win, they could extend their lead over the reigning champions to 11 points.
Bradley was substituted in the latter part of the second half during the match against Madrid, seemingly checking his hamstring. Meanwhile, Konate was observed limping as the game concluded, prompting a look of worry from captain Virgil van Dijk.
Slot wasn't sure about the severity of the injuries sustained after the match against Madrid. During the post-match press conference, he said, "I know where they're feeling pain, but it's tough to assess how serious it is or how well they're doing right after the game."
If Bradley is unable to play against City, Liverpool might bring back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who made his return to the bench during the match against Real Madrid.
The substitutes for the slot have frequently made a strong impression this season, with Caoimhin Kelleher standing out once more while Alisson Becker is sidelined. He also saved a penalty from Mbappe in the second half, showcasing his talent.
"This is how things go in a season," Slot commented regarding injuries. "We were without Trent, Jota, and Alisson today. Trent didn't play from the beginning because he was on the bench, but we definitely felt the absence of Kostas [Tsimikas]."
"This unfolds over the course of the season. I'm genuinely hoping that both Konate and Bradley will be ready to play since we want our entire team available. However, if they're not, someone else will need to rise to the occasion. So far this season, every player I've chosen to start has delivered."
"That's what will take place on Sunday—whether they’re able to play or not, others will rise to the occasion."
