PlayStation Is Taking ‘Concord’ Offline In Three Days, Issuing Refunds

Concord

The story of Concord is possibly reaching its final chapter just two weeks after it was released. PlayStation and Firewalk have revealed that Concord will be shutting down in three days on September 6, either temporarily or permanently, the details are not clear. Additionally, refunds will be given to players on all platforms.

In the blog post by Ryan Ellis, Game Director of Firewalk, he discusses the following:

"Finding ways to connect with our players more effectively" makes it seem like the game might become available for free in the future. But as mentioned before, it's not easy to suddenly make that change just two weeks after the game's release. It's rare for a major game to completely shut down so soon after launch. I can't think of any other big project that has done this with such speed.

Absolutely, refunds will be given on all platforms. Data shows that the game has only sold 25,000 copies up to now, so it hasn't reached a large number of players, which was a major issue. The game started with less than 700 players on Steam, and now, less than two weeks later, there are around 100 players each night. It currently ranks as the 154th most played game in the PlayStation store.

It seems highly unlikely that Concord will be able to make a comeback with a new version 2.0. The game has not been successful due to certain aspects of its design and its initial release. It is essentially a 5v5 hero shooter with a lackluster lineup of characters. Making changes to the gameplay or modes, or even switching to a free-to-play model, may not make a significant impact. It might be time for Sony to accept that Concord may not have a future and move on from it. The game does not seem to have a clear path forward.
