A person suspected of being involved in a shooting incident at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia is now in police custody, as reported by the Barrow County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday morning.

The identity of the suspect has not been disclosed. It is still unclear whether the suspect is enrolled as a student at the school.

There were people injured or killed, but the exact number and status of the victims were not readily available.

NBC and MSNBC have said that at least two people have died and four others have been injured. However, authorities have not given any more information yet.

The high school went into lockdown after chopper footage from the local news station WSB-TV revealed numerous police and emergency vehicles surrounding the school.

Sergio Caldera, a high school student who is 17 years old, said to ABC News that he was in his chemistry class when he heard the sound of gunshots.

"Teacher went to open the door to check the situation," Caldera recounted. "Then another teacher quickly entered and instructed her to shut the door because there was a dangerous person with a gun."

Caldera shared that there was a loud knocking on their classroom door, with someone repeatedly yelling "let us in". Subsequently, they heard additional gunshots and cries of terror.

We do not know the suspect's sex or how old they are right now.

A worried parent shared the details of the shooting on Facebook, describing it as "the most frightening situation for any parent."

Kennedy is feeling unsettled but she is fine. When I heard my child crying and expressing her fear, I felt powerless because I couldn't reach her," LaTanja Baynes Momon expressed. "The shooting took place near her classroom, so close that she could hear the gun shots. We are currently trying to reunite with her, but there are numerous people attempting to do the same. Please keep my child and Apalachee High School in your thoughts."

According to information from Georgia education officials, Apalachee High School has approximately 1,900 students. When it was established in 2000, it became the second largest public high school in Barrow County as reported by the Barrow County School System.
