Still no minutes for Cole Palmer as England held to draw by Denmark
Cole Palmer has had the most goals and assists in the Premier League this season. So, you would expect that if England needed a goal to win a game, he would be the first choice substitute to come on and help secure the victory.
However, it seems like manager Gareth Southgate did not think it was necessary to bring on Ollie Watkins, Jarrod Bowen, and Eberechi Eze during the game tonight. He only used four of his five available substitutions, with Conor Gallagher being the fourth one to come on after Trent Alexander-Arnold's poor performance in midfield. Although Watkins, Bowen, and Eze are all talented players, it is puzzling that Southgate has not given Palmer any playing time in the first two games of Euro 2024, especially considering his performance at the top of the Premier League charts.
Harry Kane scored the first goal for England by finding a stray ball in the penalty area and placing it into the net. Morten Hjulmand then equalized for Denmark with a well-placed shot from distance, which was too far for Jordan Pickford to reach with his outstretched arms.
England is not at risk of not making it to the next stage of the tournament - particularly since the match between Slovenia and Serbia also finished in a 1-1 draw. However, England's showings in the first two games have been less than satisfactory.
